Ballpark we could have 250 of a backlog. I don’t think it is that high, but could certainly see a figure of 500+ today.

    Hmm. Interesting.

I'm not saying that they do this, but if they do hold back on reporting a certain proportion of cases until days that they need particularly strong messages to come through, the double whammy of the North's numbers plus a record number of Republic cases could be seen to be tactically favourable.

Not sure why they'd do it particularly today though, unless they wanted to do an extra push on Donegal and Dublin to adhere to restrictions over the last weekend that it will make a difference, before they have to make a decision next Thursday on extending/expanding the Level 3s.

Again, I'm not categorically saying that is what they do. I just always get a gut feeling that there's more than just process involved when numbers are announced.

It spreads presymptomatically, like Covid. There's no such thing as experiencing a "touch of flu", it's most commonly diagnosed as a community illness by its symptomatology. It is *nothing* like a common cold as most people, who have rarely actually had a dose of it, seem to imagine. Too often have I heard people declare nonsense such as "I had the flu last month, now I have it again, last year I got it four times". I'm sure if enough were actually tested there is indeed sub clinical illness that never progresses, but if you do get symptoms, you get well and truly whacked. NK doctor will clinically diagnose a common viral bronchitis as a flu if the patient remains functioning throughout.

Yup, I had the flu proper once. I was out of work for close to 2 weeks and ended up losing nearly 2 stone in weight. It was not a fun experience

Does it signal a change in thinking? I hope so.

Unlikely. I can recall statements from the CMO as far back as March where did they said case numbers aren't the be all and end all. Even Ronan Glynn has stated this in numerous Pressers. Case numbers are but one metric. Bit like using temperature to describe the weather. Nobody thinks it's the sole metric.

Leo is just playing the agreeable politican game.

I had "proper flu" too when I was 8. Really knocked me for six. But I was so sick my mum took me to the doctor, who diagnosed flu from the symptoms.

Are we saying that if you are infected with influenza you absolutely couldn't get a mild dose? Like, one that isn't awful enough for you to have to go to the doctor and therefore there would never be an official diagnosis?

Or does everyone who is infected with it get bed-ridden for a few days? I mean, I'm not a scientist - and sure everyone's an armchair epidemiologist these days - but wouldn't it depend on viral load and how run down you were and other illnesses you might have and all of that? Or maybe influenza is entirely different and everyone gets a baseline level of sick?

Yes, but that's not the same thing you said in the previous post. I'm not getting at you, I was of the same opinion myself until recently when an immunologist put me right. It just knocks on the head the common line, "Believe me, you'll know if you have the flu." The fact is, you may not know.

Case wise is not good when you consider with 2 days to go it's now 10 cases more than last weeks total of 2084.

South armagh gaa club winning a championship after celebrating well excess of 100 cases followed 🙈🙈

Won’t account for most of the cases in Northern Ireland. It is caused by schools returning.

No, for lots of people the flu is no worse than a cold. Loads of people keep going to work when they have the flu. For some people of course is it severe.

Dr Ronan Glynn 'The situation nationally is now a matter of serious concern'

Did I hear right that positivity rate is as high as 11% in some counties?

    That's shocking if true

It's the same main three counties that remain of concern in terms of rising cases. Other parts of the country look to have stabilised or eased.

Probably just took the 10% and applied it to our population!

Betcha six deaths denotified won't have the same effect as six deaths announced.

No sign of MM locking down Cork. Can’t upset the parish I suppose

No, just took 10% of our population as a rough guide...

Dublin is just not slowing down anywhere near enough to prevent extension of Level 3 next week, weekly cases still up 14.55% versus 54.06% for the rest of the country

You can't have the schools open and restrictions, it just doesn't work.

The government need a new game plan and quick, the 5 step framework is having little to no affect.

Telling us the next 10 days are critical and we need to cut our contacts is like telling a smoker that cigarettes are bad, basically pointless.

Every single step this government has taking to tackle covid has been a shambles.
