Hospital and ICU admissions in NI doubling every 9 days

Ulster fry-ups and Covid are unlikely to be a good mix.

The roads? The BA tried that and it didn't work.

It works on every border on the planet.

Of course you could restrict the number of people crossing the border by manning the roads with cops/army and asking all people to turn back for non-essential travel.

As I said - the traffic alone would do most of the job for you.

**** knows how it would be thought of by the people though. Could be a complete disaster.

Seeing anything with Anti Corruption Ireland should be automatically put in the bin, but only after reading it for a laugh.

One of the comments in the debunking article is as follows:
@OnlyHereForTheComments: Admit that the leaflet omitted one of the most sophisticated conspiracies ever: SLICED BREAD! As we now know – metal blades are used to cut the bread. The special blades leave tiny metal particles on each slice you ingest. Those particles then circulate in your bloodstream and settle eventually in your brain causing corrosion. Corroded brains are frankly easier to be subverted. If you eat a lot of sliced bread or sliced buns – like the ones in burgers you may turn ginger. In extreme cases your skin may show orange tinge…Mental effects can manifest (but are not limited to) as urge to inject bleach, or insert UV light source inside your body. You may also be more prone to adultery and violence but touting family values and protection of life (especially life if somebody else’s womb). Weird ha? Believe it or not – but NGO,WHO,BMW,KFC,FBI,deep state and Johnny Depp are all in it.

I think that is the antidote to the nonsense in that leaflet.

You can't be afraid of them if you don't pay attention to them but it's not as if they can be hidden away, they are reported. I guess that brings us back to how the data is reported. Personally favour the 7 or 14 day and cases per 100K, with the daily numbers as a BTW.

You can't deny that they have been used to ramp up fear. They are really only relevant to the decision makers.

Incidence per 100,000 effectively doubled in a week too

**** just got real. From talking to colleagues in NI, the ICUs are under significant strain in NI at the moment. A lot of people are going to die due to lack of ability to escalate to ICU over the winter. Would not like to be prone to life threatening asthma attacks. Chances of survival are very low if no access to ICU bed.

    65 in hospital.

Northern Ireland had low cases until they opened the schools..they need to shut the schools again.
Think it's that 18-45 group that are seeing most of the cases, like other countries.

NI cases rising exponentially, they need to lock down now, even if they lockdown today they will be reporting over 2,000 cases by next Friday, scary place

If I am doing the math right, 934 cases in the north is akin to 2500-3000 cases down here?

He's just playing the political popuarity game.

Tbh, during his tenure as Taoiseach during this pandemic I wondered how he ever became a doctor due to the poor decisions he and those around him made. Eventually they got their act together but it took quite a while when it was clear and obvious what was required in late February.

They are just numbers, how people are processing them does not change that. If anyone is to blame for that fear it's the media. What do you see as the better way?

Bacterial Pneumonias/ The flu season is starting. I never said that it was directly due to covid. Covid is adding to the strain on the NHS.

It's great to have daily numbers. It helps with decisions that you have to make.
Right now it's time to be really careful, find the quietest time to go shopping and only meet up with people you know are very responsible.
If they instill fear in you then just don't look at them and turn off the news.

Derry’s infection rates remained low for months, then bam when the schools opened.

I never mentioned a political party name. And as you can see it's not just one party I have no time for but this isn't the thread for that. This is about covid-19.

But you've been doing that from the beginning, regardless of the daily number.

I do actually, but I've long since moved past our daily cases to other more useful data, which, while certainly worsening, are not in any way terrifying.

They've 9 in ICU as per their own figures.

Not sure what capacity is but 9 isn't going to cause significant strain unless they've little beds to start with and no surge capacity

    Way too high.

Stay at home restrictions for at least a large part of it soon.

What that tells us is they are likely to be significantly undercounting the true number of cases.

9 people in addition to normal ICU numbers. THere are 95 ICU beds in NI. In a short term situation, this could be doubled to 190 (but this is only to deal with short term events/ terrorists disasters as the bottle neck is trained staff and we aren't machines. You can deal with increased need over a short term period (ie take the manchester bombings).

At the moment, they have 10% extra demand for their ICU beds compared to non-covid times.

Just on the border thing way back when the cattle disease happened in 2001 there was a massive operation om every border crossing. Your car got lashed with spray. Every car. Every time you crossed. Any hour of day or night. You had to step out onto mats so your shoes got cleaned. A bazillion tons of noxious chemicals must have flowed from the roads into the streams and lakes along the border.
I don't suggest compulsory dousing in hand sanitiser showers at the borders.
