Well my impression was that one person knew their stuff and was reasonable, and the other was all over the place.

Isnt "schooling someone" a term a teenager would leave on a gaming video on youtube rather than a current affairs show regarding a global pandemic?

Boards itself is closer to a Youtube comment section than a serious current affairs discussion imo.

Would Boggles calling Sunetra Gupta "The Mad Mystic" and someone else saying they can understand why her husband divorced her after seeing her speak on Prime Time be uttered on a serious current affairs forum?

Perhaps but also used in elite sports which is probably where I would have seen that term used (I did not even realise that teenagers play games on you Tube).

    Good for you.

I thought all 3 were an absolute bumbling mess and an absolute waste of peoples time.

It was so refreshing to hear a medical professional hold his hands up and say I was wrong.

Dr Feeley had predicted in early March using calculations from incorrect data obtained in Italy that Ireland would only have 15% of the required ICU capacity.

He admitted last night he was completely incorrect in his modelling as he working on assumptions of high percentage numbers of positive cases requiring hospital treatment.

He was so dignified to admit his mistake.

Something none of the other cowards are willing to do.

Hospital numbers steadily creeping up. Could be a rough winter for the HSE.

    122 in hospital
    20 in ICU

This is the level of society now unfortunately.

Fine looking lady, the best on TV.

I could barely concentrate on what the other lads were waffling on about

I don't see what the problem is with locking down Cork. Just have the army patrol youghal to ballybunion and let them shoot on site anyone crossing that divide

Would that be from covid or with covid deaths?

I didn't see anyone "schooling" anyone. Sounds like those YouTube videos, "Watch as X ownz Liberal" ha.

They both just said their piece. I don't think either's views are how we are going to go about it. Maybe a bit of a waste of time overall.
They did let each other speak which is streets ahead of some other recent debates I've watched!

Using Worldometers, it’s easy to check Irish population, infected people and deaths since the start of this pandemic. But as the majority of our deaths were at the start of this, I’m curious if the statistics for the number of people infected / deaths are available on a monthly basis?

    Who's advice should be followed?

Or maybe who would be the most transparent with data?

    Who's advice should be followed?

Well considering he has all ready got it spectacularly wrong on this virus which is pretty new, probably not him.

    What do you reckon?

I mean effectively he has swung from shut it all down to open it all up. Do you think we should be basing policy on someone with such bipolar opinions?

The Czech rep are declaring a state of emergency so that they can implement strict new restrictions quickly.
One of them is to close all secondary schools from Monday.

I wonder did they have the same "the schools must remain open at all costs" mantra that we currently live under.

    What an absolute dribbler.

Did you watch the video? If an asymptomatic person fell off a ladder and died with a cracked scull it's a covid death and released in the daily figures. Do you not think that's wrong ?

    This is not the case.
Covid deaths in Ireland are only counted where the death certificate lists Covid as a cause, or where the death cert has not yet been issued, where there's a strong suspicion it was covid related.

Did you not watch the video I posted in the post you are replying to? IT IS NOTED AS A COVID DEATH NO MATTER HOW THE PERSON DIED ONCE THEY HAVE TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID

Yeah, that's not what he claimed though.

His claim was if you tested any 80 people randomly 1-2 of them would be positive with Covid.

    Do you agree with that?

Also referenced an awful lot here in May as they reduced their curve and had a massive party to celebrate the end of lockdown.

On Sep 17th, they hit almost 10x their original peak. Mental.

Sure there are errors in reporting, like measurement of anything, there is some error, obviously enough but it seems like there are a lot of people hanging on to this notion with a death grip of "with, not from" to delude themselves that cases are not rising.

News flash, they are, all over Europe at the same time via different testing and reporting regimes all saying the same thing on aggregate.

    Use your brains

They locked down hard , very early but opened up far too fast, by their own admission. They are where the rest of Europe is - Living with COVID-19 with all the ups and downs that brings.

Much like ourselves and it is turning out to be a fool's errand.

Condemned to repeat the mistakes of the past. We know viruses travel in waves and the six month relaxation/complacency effect is well documented as was predicted.

    Reuters doing its best to be as hysterical as possible, but within the article;
The state of emergency itself does not mean any draconic steps but gives the government more power to limit activities including businesses.

The R number, showing how many people are likely to get infected by one person, has dropped to around 1.2, from about 1.6 earlier this month.

You have a fascinating theory here.

The CFR was initially assumed at 3-4%.

We now know thats completely incorrect with more up to date data.

Utilising your theory science and data is bipolar?

    Is that correct?
