Jaysus, once again completely opposite views of a segment I haven’t seen. Any honest brokers care to comment who may have - few and far between around here, hmmmm, jimhodge, Stephen?

I’ll be purely honest, I’ll call a spade a spade. Fenney Schooled McConkey. Miriam was feeling bad for him

Sorry folks, but which TV program were McConkey and Feeney on?

I'll watch it and give my honest opinion. I do try to be an honest broker.

But of course the lads here who just want to be told what they want to hear are lapping it up.

I could say the same for the reverse.
McConkey fans here obviously love attacking Feeneys position.

Mcconkey was an absolute shambles, feeley presented his case well and if you agree with him it'll reinforce your view, but take the time to watch it.

The HSE stats are that 200 to 500 people die of the flu in Ireland every year.

That's .01% of the population. .1% would be 5000 people.

    Covid is not the flu.

Public ignorance like this mixed with media sensationalism is the perfect storm.

I believe what you are referring to is the IFR (infection fatality rate)
For the flu the IFR is .01% and the CFR (case fatality rate) is 0.1%

For CV-19, the CFR in March/April was estimated by the WHO to be 3-4% with media reporting up to 25%. This is number is constantly being downgraded (thankfully). Here is the most recent 14 day epidemiology report from the HSE. The case fatality rate is .1%

About time somebody asked Mcconkey some real questions and took him to task.

He has been given free reign on RTE tv and radio for many many months now and nobody has questioned him.

It is the free ride that everybody on NPHET gets also, nobody is asking them proper hard questions, they are just accepting what they say as gospel.

We need a proper debate in this country and stop putting these Medical managers and PHD la dee daas on a pedestal

Just watching Feeley and McConkey now. McConkey immediately jumped on "herd immunity" but Feeley never said anything about that. Same about testing.

It reminds me a bit of the interview with the Swedish guy the other day. It's not about finding what insights these people might have. It's about stamping on possible heresy.

McConkey citing Faroe islands and Greenland in support of his point

Thousands if not tens of thousands people are walking around today unaware that they have covid19. That makes sense.

Cheers Arghus. We do have a few who accept a dissenting opinion on either side of the debates on here including yourself. We can’t all spend our time in one of Caveats buckets only listening to what reinforces our previous view.

You get the impression daily here that there are a few who are afraid of dissenting from the established position on any topic on their side of the argument lest they be lumped in with the deniers/ lockdowners and lose a few “Thanks” along the way

Feeney came across measured and intelligent . McConkey was all over the place and illogical .
Feeney didn't say that young people weren't at risk but felt those that would be in vulnerable groups could be identified and shielded.
I disagree with this as some who are adversely affected have been shown , while not so far in great numbers , as being from a group who would not be supposed to be at risk.
He also said that with proper training and good PPE older people would not be infected by younger carers or nurses .
This does not take into account the numbers if HCWs that are becoming infected every week however .
Overall Feeney won the debate , whether you agree with him or not .
I think McConkey's default position is a bit hysterical anyway .

Haven't seen it myself. Stopped watching prime time a while go. Just seen the conversation on it here so I'll have to take a look at the RTE player when it's uploaded

I'm vindicated more and more every day

    Well aren't you great?

Did you actually read the conclusion of the study?

“SARS-CoV-2 reinfection can occur but is a rare phenomenon suggestive of a strong protective immunity against reinfection that lasts for at least a few months post primary infection.”

Winning and losing misses the point imo. Feeley was hesitant and uncomfortable. For some people that means he "lost". I'm not sure what to make of it tbh. But, I think the points he was trying to make deserve more discussion.

So what category would you be putting Feeney in then ?

I didn’t think he was hesitant or uncomfortable. He was calm and measured in his responses to McConkey. McConkey went on tangents to give his view some substance but mention Greenland as a country for us to look up to, loses the debate immediately in my view.
That’s my take on it anyway.

And what good is a few months to anyone in the face of a virus as potent as this one ?

Pierce Doherty making good points in favour of unemployed people and mortgage payment breaks. Government should pressure the banks to play ball as it’s stressful enough for people.

all that he wanted was a debate and to set the record straight having been ravaged out of context in the press since he stepped down. he has tons of pedigree and deserved to be heard. but I supposed he's no martin king of the covid business like luke EH OH masks are great but maybe not, just wash your hands and when they're clean wave to MTV and my investors. O neil...

    Just look at this clique

We all know many in the medical field are well up their own arse, imagine have 26 top brass of these making these decisions with no oversight....it is scary.

It says at least a few months, for all we know it could last for decades for the majority
