I have a sibling in Abu Dhabi - they've started offering teachers free Covid vaccines. I told them to come home before whatever vaccine they have is made mandatory

There are vaccines in use already outside of Western medicine

Cheers for that, a sudden immense sadness just came over me! Hope there will be positive news in the next few months

Of course there will be. There are now, too. As I type this there are 11 phase III vaccine trials happening across the world. That's not to count the other 41 in phase I and II. Not all of them will be successful but we only need one and going by the news lately, we are surely to get one soon.

Think of the people recovering who don't make the news. A friend of mine who is 22, got it and recovered just fine. A regular customer of mine told me her 85 year old mother had it, recovered and spent last weekend drinking baileys and singing karaoke (I kid you not).

Also, consider how many people have the virus right now that don't even know it. Leo said a few weeks ago that this is the case for the majority of people at the moment!

I think social distancing in people's own homes is feasible, i.e. one person in the kitchen at any given time.

We won’t have a vaccine or treatment in next 6 months according to Ronan Glynn

They've done this alot recently, its purely setting expectations. If one arrives which looks likely in Q1 2021 then they can say oh look its better than we thought.

If you follow vaccine data and I'm sure the CMO does its quite possibly there'll be one approved for use early 2021.

Were these undiagnosed before Covid in him maybe? Diabetes from Covid is surprising for me

It has been mooted a while ago and some more studies since this report:

ETA the NEJM above being one of those subsequent studies

You'd wanna be proper out of the loop to believe a 6 month timeframe before any vaccine/treatment.

Dr Glynn, "1 case led to 56 cases". A few people didn't isolate with mild symptoms let to lots of follow on infection.

I'm not watching the briefing but this sounds awful. More people bending the rules to suit themselves no doubt.

On the news earlier about 2 , one in NI and UK , and one in Ireland .
Irish one is already at the stage of commencing testing on vulnerable people so well advanced .
Btw when I say , Irish , it is a pharma company in Ireland , maybe you know the name ?

Are you saying that Ronan Glynn is out of the loop, or just that you’re more “ in the loop”?

    Vaccine doesn't = Vaccinated.

People are completely over simplifying the process.

It's far more nuanced and the hurdles are many.

On top of that it is rarely if every the first vaccine that is approved that goes on to be the one that continues to get used.

So anyone thinking Vaccine in January business as usual by the summer or even the end of next year is in for some disappointment.

Also that artificially tanned Buffon over isn't helping things, polls asking people would they take a vaccine have dropped considerably since he made it a election issue.

He's dampening expectations so people don't get complacent. It's called media training.

This is a staggering comment tbh. We are not currently "living with covid" theres 2 counties on lockdown and another 5 or 6 with warnings of lockdown. Daily hysteria garnered by the numbers and the C.M.O saying this is life for x amount of time. What a **** show, no plan no sign of light at the end of the tunnel.

Two counties on partial lockdown. 12 March was full lockdown. Plenty of opportunity still for covid spread within these counties.

Let's just say a vaccine is discovered within 3 months, how long would Ireland be waiting for it to arrive here on this island and will rural Ireland have to wait even longer?

If a contact of a contact has tested positive for COVID, what's the craic? Lets say a teacher has a child whose mother went for a test on Friday and it came back positive today. The child is now self isolating until a test, but does the teacher have to?

No, unless the close contact child test comes back as positive

EU has already preordered enough for the entirety of Europe. We'll get it the same time as anyone else in Europe will.

Not sure to be honest there's a few it could be. I'd be surprised if Pfizer weren't involving their Irish operations in the phase 3 of their vaccine.

Stay away from here, and avoid Covid-19 coverage in the media, this is where the daily hysteria is coming from.

There was never any full lockdown in Ireland.

It's not a good thing for NI to be selected for vaccine trials, by the way. Countries with extremely high incidences are selected for trials. NI is now in the same grouping as places like Brazil, Mexico, South Africa and England.

I know vaccine doesn't = vaccinated you don't need to explain that to me.

Like I say frontline and vulnerable will be priority. It'll be long after that for everyone else.

You don't need everyone vaccinated to break the chain of transmission

All to be run by the EU so they'll be the ones allocating x amount to each country out of the deals done at EU level
