I just saw an article on the RTE site about a man in his thirties who was at deaths door because of Covid. He now has diabetes and hypertension. It put the fear in me.

Glynn is far too polite in his language and tone.

Maybe appoint Roy Keane in the short term to get a handle on Cork's numbers

"To date, schools have not been a significant driver of transmission" - Dr. Glynn

Dr Glynn, "1 case led to 56 cases". A few people didn't isolate with mild symptoms let to lots of follow on infection.
That idiot pub owner in Roscommon?

Nah. He'd complain about the PPE and storm off home.

We won’t have a vaccine or treatment in next 6 months according to Ronan Glynn

I'd be willing to put money that there will be at least 2 authorised vaccines by new year.

    Where were these 56 Cases?

He is setting expectations. Any vaccine won’t be widespread in 6 months even if more than one is available

Depends on context. Russia and China have vaccines already, but are they safe?

What are the chances he had diabetes and hypertension before he got COVID?

Rapid testing likely to be here before a vaccine. Should be a big help in controlling the virus.

Teachers are being treated like the liquidators were in Chernobyl.

We will have new ways of treating patients. New medications will be repurposed. A vaccine will hopefully start rolling out in the middle few months of next year.

We will have lots of reasons for hope in the next few months. Ronan is just tempering expectations.

Glynn - schools are not causing the spread
Teacher - why are we not contacts of confirmed cases
Glynn - we are asking everyone else to cut contacts

    Briefing ends

He's been told by Hands Martin we're too cheap to pay for it I'd say

Yes cases everywhere up here in Dublin , in school age over 15s , but not clusters so much .
I think they are talking about under 15s ?

I'm not saying they wasted their time. But it'll be back again in New Zealand. It's inevitable. And to stamp out a handful of cases, they'll need to lockdown again. How long do you keep doing that for? Years? Decades?

According to worldometers, they still have 59 active cases. Small but they haven't eradicated it.

We'll see. It was disheartening to see them have another outbreak, but I think you may be exaggerating their difficulties.
I expect they will have learned from what slipped up and keep a closer eye on those coming from & interfacing with the "infected" world (incomers, border workers, customs/shipping etc).

Unfortunately they will have to maintain vigilance and still devote a lot of time and resources to checking and testing + quarantining people etc. However their problems seem preferable to the ones we have.

I'm 95% confident there'll be some sort of vaccine distribution by March.

Were these undiagnosed before Covid in him maybe? Diabetes from Covid is surprising for me

Cheers for that, a sudden immense sadness just came over me! Hope there will be positive news in the next few months

    Low .
Couldn't make a claim like that if it was untrue , on national TV!
He was fit and healthy and was working as a healthcare worker .

It is an inflammatory condition and has been shown to trigger diabetes as well as pre existing diabetes exacerbating the inflammatory reaction to Covid .
