    I still think it was a shame to not see the Talisman come on sale here, they're onto the second version in Europe, it's a lovely car in the flesh but I guess not not much of a right hand drive market for it.

    Well they’re consistently 6/7 in the sales charts here so yea, obviously a lot of people do covet a Renault!

    got to say I dont see the appeal of that Arkana

    The coupe SUV is a real " more money than good sense" mobile to me, and those sorts are massive badge snobs

    There is plenty of Renaults in this country and plenty of people happy with them. There is even the Renaults that most people might not realise are Renaults they just want a cheap reliable A to B car to get around and thats Dacia.

    Wouldn’t like the Arcana ( or any of that shaped car from any manufacturer), but that Talisman is a lovely looking car.

    Yep. I’m probably like a broken record but 25 years ago you had what I call working mans coupes, as in non premium coupes.

    Opel Calibra and Tigra, Toyota Paseo and Celica, Fiat Coupe, Ford Probe, Puma, Cougar, Honda Prelude and Integra, Nissan 100NX, 200ZX, Hyundai S Coupe, Renault Megane Coupe and many others.

    You also had 3 door versions of family cars like the Corolla, Escort, Colt, Astra etc. Then you had convertibles.

    The coupes were the first to go, then the convertibles and now the non premium 3 door hatch is almost extinct. This isn’t purely as a result of manufacturers being silly - it’s because people won’t buy them.

    What they are buying is crossovers, and just like the Megane Coupe was essentially a Megane only different which appealed to someone looking for something a little different -so will the slightly less practical slopey roofed crossovers.

    Big wheels and big ground clearance are slowly becoming the norm, where eventually what we would call a regular car will be notable by its diminutive height. This will happen.

    I’m not happy about it, but that’s the direction things are going.

    It's a stupid trend. Cars with big wheels and increased height are inherently less efficient. What they're achieving is undoing much of the gains made with respect to CO2 and fuel consumption. Seems mad but people seem to like their ugly cars these days. Tis a shame. To think I used to like BMWs.

    Is the new Mégane a good machine? The previous one had a great reputation. Thinking about one of those or a Leon FR estate as the next motor. The French are making some great cars last decade or so

    Yes it is, it's well made and very reliable too. Unlike a certain overrated German mass producing brand that some people aspire to own. Never seen the appeal myself.

    Ok, lets not get carried away here, a Renault isnt exactly hand made and lets be fair there were an awful lot of issues with them going back a bit.

    Reliability might be on the up but they are still considered a mid level product and the quality of them still isnt in the German premium brand levels, nor are the driving dynamics ( and by the way I have owned Renaults and am a big fan.)

    If you are talking about an Opel, then they aren't even German !

    I certainly like them. The engine is nothing exciting but since they made them all 110 bhp there is plenty in them to get around. Overall the spec is decent, GT line is preferable but even in limited or dynamique spec you get plenty of kit other mass market brands you pay big money for. A 2 year old GT line with someone else taking the big depreciation hit and 3 years of warranty left is a very shrewd buy if you ask me

    I certainly like them. The engine is nothing exciting but since they made them all 110 bhp there is plenty in them to get around.     We bought a 3.5yr, old 2012 reg GT Line Tourer with EDC box, Kept it 4.5 years. Paid 15k for it as a 1 owner car with 39k kms on it , from a main dealer. Sold it after 4.5 years for 5k and they nearly took my hand off to buy it.

    FSH, 160k kms on it, zero trouble bar 1 door handle which Renault warrantied at 5 yrs old. I loved it.

    And, at time of purchase it was a fraction of the price of a VAG car.

    Enlighten me on these 'issues'. I've bought 2 new and 3 used Renault over 20 years. Without question all have been more reliable than any German car I've had in the interim. That includes Audi, Porsche and Mercedes. And 2 x Saabs too.

    I still have and love the German stuff, but our Renault go toe-toe easily. The last Mégane GT in particular was great.
