Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    The stunt on the bridge, and how Bond avoided being run over, was a neat moment; the glider however was too OTT though; does make one wonder just what tone they're going to aim for - and how consistent it'll be in execution.

    Given what I've heard about Bond movies & how product placement pays back the budget before it even hits cinemas, presumably any box office taking will be pure profit.

    To be honest, this movie would get me into a cinema this year. (would prefer digital release though). Really looking forward to it.

    It's a long time since I've seen Dr. No, but I don't remember quite as many explosions and stunts.

    Generally the last movie made by a Bond actor is terrible (Diamonds are Forever, View to a Kill and Die another Day are all rubbish; I'll ignore Lazenby and Dalton for this theory), so this just has to be ok (or at least less boring than Spectre) to stay ahead of the curve

    'Spectre' was rubbish because it tried to be a Bond movie. Whereas the other Craig Bonds made efforts to depart a wee bit from the tired old formula and tried to stand on their own, even if it was only in small ways.

    I'm hoping that for Craig's last outing, they make an effort to complete his run in a sensible way and not try to do a "Bond" again.

    I thought Skyfall had a lot of the old-school Bond tropes as well, and it was really good. From the trailer, this looks very Bondy.

    I only saw it the once but "Skyfall" felt like it at least tried to shake up and subvert the franchise a little, without tipping completely overboard into farce. While its last act in Scotland a rather brilliant piece of restrained - but still tense - action mixed with genuine character arcs centring around Judi Dench's M. It was basically Oedipal Complex: the Action Movie and because it committed to the idea, the execution seemed effortless

    But then, where could the series go after that? "Spectre" was then a bit of a confused mess; obviously the same director with Sam Mendes but the script was all over the shop. Tried to balance the depth of, and fallout from, "Skyfall" with more traditional tropes from the franchise - and came off all sorts of broken.

    Perhaps the root of the issue is that there's not enough character within James Bond to sustain this run of "moody" Bond; where most of the time "character" has amounted to sullenness - with 'Skyfall" and "Casino Royale" being the noted exceptions. Bond doesn't have depth to start with - that's kinda the point of him - so realistically there's only bandwidth for the occasional transformative twist or shock in his life. The rest of the time Craig mopes around. "No Time to Die" could go either way but looks like they're still trying for some moodiness in place of character.

    Would it kill them to have Bond fight a new bad guy who is nothing to do with previous ones, who wants to execute his world domination plan from a hollowed out volcano?

    Casino Royale is Craigs best and we didn't need a baddie multiverse to have a cracking game of wits. Retconning all these guys together like they did with the DNA in Spectre is more Bourne than Bond.

    Just give me:

    Girls
    Cars
    Gadgets
    Exotic locations (including evil lair)
    & John Barry

    Maybe throw in a tux and a casino.

    there has been a lack of hollowed out volcanoes in the recent films alright. Blame Austin Powers for that.

    Won't watch the trailer as I plan on seeing the film anyway, but every time I see this thread title I always read it as "No Time to Die Hard"

    no plot given away in the trailer.

    a lot of action though...

    suspect that Craig may finish up like Brosnan with only 1 good bond movie - the first one that they did!

    I know that they are trying to stoke up interest due to the Covid situation and in fact most likely also feed trailer view metrics into the decision to release or not but it's pretty much never a good sign when a movie shows a lot of the key action sequences in a trailer

    mixed at best I would say.

    personally I would say bloated with a lot of rubbish parts in it that ruined it

    the extended scene at the end in particular where Dench kicked the bucket (didn't even care at that point) but even the court / tube stuff and the silly island place - i.e. large parts of it

    went back and actually watched Quantum of Solace a while ago and I would argue that it's better - much tighter

    You're entitled to your opinion, but you stated it like it was a fact. Casino Royale has an imdb score of 8, Skyfall is 7.7. The only other Bond movie in that bracket - ever - is Goldfinger (also 7.7). Claiming that Craig only has one good Bond film is a nonsense. He only has one Bond film you like.

    And I say that as someone who doesn't love Skyfall either.

    not sure how accurate metacritic can be for a 1964 film tbh..... not exactly a great argument

    personally I think that Skyfall got a higher rating that it deserved when it came out due to the beloved Dench being killed-off effect (big part of it imo - sort of an appreciation for her role over the years) and Bardem in the cast (good actor but pretty cartoonish even for bond villan)

    in retrospect it's a pretty bad movie

    so I'll stick to one

    Nevertheless, most people would agree that Skyfall was (at the very least) "good".

    If NTTD is anyway decent, I'll be giving Craig a 3/5 for his Bonds.

    Only one that didn't do it for me was Quantum of Solace. Didn't enjoy that at all. I felt it just dragged, which is unlike Bond films.

    Cant compare Craig's outing as Bond to Brosnan's in my opinion. I felt there was nothing likeable about Brosnan's Bond. Bit of a smart-ass. But at least Daniel Craig has brought a bit of personality to the character. Performances aside, Brosnan's films were rather shallow. All about driving tanks, sky-diving, ticking bomb etc.
