Any news on when last seasons Players Player of the Year will be announced?

This seasons opener The Community Shield starts in half an hour or has the award been cancelled.

Feel for Brewster in that Peno shoot out. Hopefully learns from it and doesn't dwell on it to much. Looks to have bags of potential

It's normally around the start of August isn't it? League would usually have two rounds of games played by now.

I’d say he means the league doesn’t kick off for 2 weeks, the community shield usually kicks off the week before the league starts..

Has there been any reports on how the Brighton vs Chelsea game went yesterday with fans in attendance?

Anyone watch All or Nothing Spurs yet?

Reading a few reviews and I get the idea it should be renamed All or Nothing Jose.

Just seen the first two episodes so far, and yeah, he's grabbed hold of that show with both hands. Lots of very staged moments, and Jose pontificating. Even the fact that the almost-half a season Poch was there is glossed over in 20 minutes.

Also just the way Jose is presented by the show - the choices of sound bites by journalists and players/staff etc is a completely false image of who he was at the time of hiring. You'd swear it was the Jose fresh off an Inter treble we were dealing with.

Still an interesting enough watch so far though, with a lot more managerial access than the City one had (even if you have to take them with a dollop of salt).

That will be a fair bit wonga they are walking away from. No reason given but it would have to be political.

They are just going to end up with a raft of illegal streams floating around the Internet.

Seems to be mainly financial, the company involved hasn't settled a due payment for March.

Seems to be a growing issue generally with money getting tight, like with the Virgin/Eir dispute.

The beginning of the long touted end? Messi'd want to sign his next contract quick.

I don't see how Sky have been able to pay the PL such huge sums of money especially as their product has been diluted by other providers, illegal (or frowned upon, I'm never sure) streams and people just not renewing subs.

There seems to be a good few clubs in the PL that have taken out very large loans to cover the losses from lack of fans in attendance at the end of last season and for the foreseeable future. Maybe they are also using those loans to cover transfers but that can't really be proven yet. Man Utd (£140m) & Spurs (£175m) were the big two. This TV deal being cancelled puts more pressure on those clubs finances now.

A lot of the bottom half clubs would rely on the TV money so this could have a massive impact on their future, let alone their season. Leeds are playing a risky game with their big spending, and Villa seem to be creeping into another big spend again.

Without trying to fire up an inter-Liverpool fans war, maybe FSG keeping their powder dry, for now, is the more sensible option for the long term planning of the club.

The next round of bidding is going to be very interesting. Surely its time for the PL to broadcast themselves over streaming, Sky and BT aren't going to keep up these fees.

Not sure that they'll do it themselves, but I think the next rights agreement will be for more streaming packages in general. Amazon could well blow Sky and BT entirely out of the water. I don't see the money offered dropping just yet, think it's got one big upward bump left with the switch away from traditional broadcast media.

Premier League confirms that it has terminated its agreements for Premier League coverage in China with its rights holder partner PPTV.
Was reportedly the PL’s biggest overseas deal, worth around £490m over three-years

Termination of deal understood to be linked to PPTV withholding its latest payment due to the PL of £160m in March

    Not necessarily.

Illegal streams have to originate from a legitimate broadcast.

A lot of illegal streams originate in China.

If there is no legitimate broadcast in China then the numbers of people publishing illegal streams from China is going to diminish.

Thus there will be less streams available rather than more.

Once BeIn and NBC are broadcasting legally (plus the mulitude of Eastern European and Spanish language channels) there'll be no shortage of streams.

I can't see why they would go alone on it.

It would be a huge financial lay out for them to get it setup, and the next few years are going to be very uncertain times.

The value of the rights will decline if you ask me, but the EPL would be still be better off selling the rights and letting someone else deal with the logistics rather than having to do it themselves.

If I were the PL I'd be striking a deal with youtube - scalable in every respect. You can create subscriber channels, impose country restrictions, stream at any number of bit-rates so everyone can watch without drop outs or buffering on any device.

Sky are getting hit badly right now. Whenever I look at any programme, their entire ads are for Sky Programming or Sky Internet. Even for live cricket they are still full of Sky ads. Subscriptions and viewers must have fallen off a cliff. There is nobody to advertise to.

You'd think that would be for every Sports PPV channel, however I have been watching Tour De France over at Eurosport and they are full of advertisers.
