    No R Kelly, Reb.

    :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

If someone nominated him, leave him in I'd say. If it was just an extra song to make up numbers go with your other option.

Its an interesting debate though (given how many big name celebs are sickos and cretins, but they already have an entire career behind them before this was common knowledge) of are you able to separate the art from the artist...

No R Kelly, he's sh*te. Oh, and has made some questionable choices in his life. But mainly because he's sh*te.

    My votes in Bold:

Curtis Mayfield Move On Up v Lou Bega Mambo No. 5 - I had to as it was one of my nominations! Anyway, it's great!

Eternal I Wanna Be The Only One v Puff Daddy I'll Be Missing You - just for The Police riff!

Cameo Word Up v Smokey Robinson & The Miracles You've Really Got a Hold on Me - Great piece of soul and funk.

T.I feat. Rihanna Live Your Life v Five Star Rain or Shine - Pleasant little pop tune.

Curtis Mayfield - Move On Up ; one of my nominations and the better song by far

Eternal - I Wanna Be The Only One ; not crazy about either, but somewhat prefer this one

Cameo - Word Up ; very tough call as both songs are class, but the Cameo music video is Also Starring LeVar Burton, so how can I not vote for it?

T.I feat. Rihanna - Live Your Life ; this song was a big hit during the height of my radio hosting days, and one I was always happy to throw on the air

Thinking of posting some first round matches at 6.30pm.

The first round will go at a leisurely pace; I'll count the votes forty-five minutes after the matches are posted. It gives everyone a chance to listen to them. Also, I want to gauge interest as I know there ain't many black folks around here. I might change rules depending on how things go.

First of all however, I have a question: should I include R. Kelly? I reckon no one will vote for him and I have another big song in mind that can replace him; so I'll probably leave him out unless there's any objections.

R Kelly's music was terrible, so no need to include it

Ah here. Why couldn’t Luther and Sam be up against the Rhiannas of the world!

I know all these songs well so posting now

Luther Vandross Never Too Much - I feel very bad voting against Sam but this is my nom.
Warren G feat. Nate Dogg Regulate - I do like this one.
Fats Waller Ain't Misbehaving/Stormy Weather - tough matchup but Fats Waller is brill
Commodores Nightshift - an amazing tune by an amazing nominator (me). If anyone picks MC over it they either nominated it or didn’t listen to nightshift! No contest here.

    My votes in Bold.

Luther Vandross Never Too Much v Sam Cooke Wonderful World - very pleasant tune.

Michael Jackson Wanna Be Startin Something v Warren G feat. Nate Dogg Regulate - clever sampling of a Michael MacDonald song.

Bill Withers Lean On Me v Fats Waller Ain't Misbehaving/Stormy Weather - just to bring something different and bluesy to the table!

Commodores Nightshift v MC Hammer U Can't Touch This - Great rap tune and includes that unforgettable riff from Rick James' Superfreak.

Edit: not made about Nightshift at all!
