Lockdown for Kildare (Aug 8th-31st)

Effective from midnight tonight (Aug 7th until Aug 23rd)

Residents will be permitted to travel outside of Kildare, Offaly and Laois for the following reasons:

- To travel to and from work, where it is not possible to work from home.
- To attend medical appointments and collect medicines and other health products.
- For vital family reasons such as caring for children, ederly or vulnerable people - but excluding social visits.
- For farming purposes including food production and care for animals.

Update Aug 21st
Restrictions for Laois and Offaly will end on Aug 23rd but remain in place for 2 more weeks in Kildare (until Sept 6th)

Update Aug 31st
Kildare restrictions to be lifted with immediate effect

Money I suppose, Dublin makes alot of it. Dublin could subsidise every other county being locked down Id say.

RTE website:

Residents of counties Kildare, Offaly and Laois will not be permitted to travel outside of their counties except for in limited circumstances, including travel to and from work, under plans agreed by the Government.

Restaurants, bars, cinemas and gyms will be closed for the localalised restrictions, which are due to come into effect from midnight tonight and remain in place for two weeks.

But crèches will remain open and preparations for the re-opening of schools can continue.

People living in Kildare, Offaly and Laois will be put under a partial lockdown for the next two weeks.
Starting from midnight, those living in the three counties will have to restrict their movements and people elsewhere in the country will be banned from travelling to the counties.
Cafes, restaurants and pubs operating as restaurants will have to close from tomorrow unless they are doing takeaway service or have outdoor dining.

Cinemas, theatres, museums, galleries, bingo halls, casinos, betting shops and other indoor recreational and cultural outlets will also be closed. Gyms, leisure centres, swimming pools, exercise and dance studios, sports clubs and similar venues should close.

The law abiding will adhere to it but plenty of criminals and general scumbags will ignore it making it a waste of time .

Well as someone who lives in one of those counties and is 2 hours away tonight and for the rest of the weekend, I'll be breaking the restrictions anyway

Partial lockdowns make a lot more sense than a full one.

If I was a publican or small business owner in Leitrim which has had fewer than 100 cases through the entire pandemic I’d be absolutely raging that my area is being treated the same as a virus epicenter.

But as long as 80/90% people act responsibly then it works. there is never going to be 100% adherence as there is always the 10% of assholes.

Well thats not true, 48% of total cases for the entire pandemic were in Dublin, of the current active cases its nowhere near that percentage.

Very surprised to read that some meat factory employees are in direct provision. If they are thus employed, why are they not on working visas and living self sustained in comunity. Are they in reciept of a full wage? Is this a source of cheap compliant labour, subsidised by irish state. Genuine questions...if someone can enlighten me.

It seems it all goes back to the meat processing plants. One of them had 80 employees out of 240 tested positive and they dont want to spread that into the community.
