Will there be another lockdown?

Do any of you think there will be another lockdown coming into the winter months? The cases seem to be climbing but at least we know where they are originating from now which is good. Hospitals are managing pretty well too!

If cases go high along with hospital admissions will the country lockdown again to keep our healthcare system functioning?

We will if we have to but I don’t think it’ll be necessary. It has happened in other countries. The government also didn’t dismiss the idea of regional lockdowns when asked about it yesterday. I think that is more likely than a full return to lockdown.

Looks like we'll follow trend and see what other countries are doing. We've a low population density that centralized to a few major cities and we're also a small island so we have a major advantage in fighting this virus.

We could and should have reduced the cases to close to zero but we didn't and I don't believe the government is being honest with the numbers when it comes to how many cases came from abroad. Just it seems suspicious that the majority of the recent cases are from factories that employ a lot of foreign nationals and also refugee camps.

We need some sort of border control, I know there's the blah blah blah crowd saying it's not possible, but some restrictions are better than nothing. I know we can't follow the New Zealand model but other countries with restrictions are doing well like China, Korea and Thailand.

As for the another lockdown, it looks likely, numbers are growing and if we open up the schools and force the public servants back to work then it will increase numbers until its out of control again, also the longer we delay the inevitable the worse it is for the economy.

A lockdown is the right thing to do but the people aren't ready, the government are unpopular as it is and are going to wait until the numbers are at a dangerous level again so they can say they tried but another lockdown is needed.

So to summarize we need incoming passanger restrictions, we need another lockdown now in order to open up and give the economy a boom around christmas. The government are too afraid to do the right thing so expect a lockdown October to November

    Yes, another Lockdown is inevitable.

The real question is will the usual suspects bother to act like they're going along with it: no.

Some Rural TDs are no help, as are some radio personalities.

According to their mind the vast majority Irish citizens are being great in their coping with this Covid pandemic

Look at the gov.ie site today - mind you, you have to really dig to find it - advisong people in kilkenny, laois and Offally to self isolate Nd elderly people to go back cocooning.

Wiat til the schools go back - its going to be a massacre.

I’d also say there are a lot more cases and people not reporting or spending the r60 on a doctor for a ‘we have no pill or cure, wait Nd see diagnosis’.

+1 about seriously needing to restrict people leaving the country and people coming in on holidays/to visit ‘family’. We have policies set in our major hospitals that make it almost impossible for an elderly 60y old+ male with a heart or health issue to get selected for ICU treatment because of capacity issues yet if a tourist come ls here and flls ill and is under 60 they will get an ICU bed - beggars belief.

Yes - I predict a crisis that will eventually force our government to put people before economics. Unlike now.

Probably? Over here in Australia they started easing and now it's blown up again. I don't really see how a highly infectious virus won't spread until (if?) there's a vaccine.

So it’s all the tourists fault then is it?

The vast majority are though, that's the thing.

Reckon it's the fault of those pesky dole scroungers myself

I think that they will introduce some new measures very soon, in order to knock it back before school is due to start.

This is alarming, I live in a very rural location in one of the counties mentioned. This will have enormous implications if individual counties are locked down. Very worrying

Localised ones yes. Coming quite soon I’d think.

Not a very helpful comment, you might find and increase in PUP recepients very soon if counties are locked down.

Might as well get the dole bashing outta the way, unfortunately this virus is gonna be a pain in the arse, we ll be opening and closing for a while yet, increases in pup payments are the least of our worries

People flouting regulations and guidelines is what’s awful because that’s what’s causing it.

We need to grow up once and for all and stop the “be grand” attitude and everyone suiting themselves. Time to start calling out individuals in shops, etc and reporting businesses that aren’t doing what they’re supposed to.

True enough, my own village has already ordered tumble weed as part of its new abandoned look, not sure how tidy towns will react

This isn't true at all. I'd say most people in ICU right now are 60+. You don't know what you're talking about.

Close all off licences in Laois, offaly and Kildare for 2 weeks

    +1000.

It's the bally ballyness of it that makes it all seem so bally bally.

Wouldn’t be a bad idea. The gastro pubs and specialist food shops too. If you’re going that route then let everyone do a basic shop in one of the supermarkets and nothing more.

Yep and get everybody in these counties to drive to neighboring counties off licenses for the beer and wine. Crazy suggestion imo

Yeah that's a great plan, create conflict where none exists. What is causing it at present is a number of large clusters linked to certain environments, it is still very low in the community despite all the "flouting" you're evidently looking out for.

This is about the sixth time the world has come to an end in the last six months and yet we're still here. There will be a level of cases so people need to get used to it. Hospitals have low numbers of cases and what we see at present is largely cluster related and not all over the place. These two things are good for disease management.

Checkpoints, address checks, and absolutely hop off them with fines if they do.

So let’s say they lockdown the 3 counties. What about a person who lives in Naas and works in Dublin? Would they be allowed cross the border to Dublin? What if they’re a nurse as one example or a waiter in a gastro pub as a second example?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,250 ✭✭✭Seamai

I think we're looking at regional lockdowns very shortly, in a way these might be harder to implement than a countrywide one and will only work if (and I don't like using this word) policed properly, most people will do the right thing but there is a substantial minority who think rules and recommendations are for everyone else but not them.
