Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Saw drone miles off the coast

    Hi Folks.

    Flying into Dublin recently I was surprised to see a drone of some kind fly past us in the general area of the attached. It looked like it had red lights at the top.

    Does anyone know what this is about? I presume something to do with the coast guard but would be delighted to hear that it was a Russian spy drone or something :)

    Wasn't this one. It was definitely a more regular one with 4 rotors etc. That one is a proper UAV but mine looked like something I could buy myself

    Maybe you should report it as it may be a hazard to aviation.

    I'm pretty sure the pilot knew. I was looking out the starboard side of the plane and it passed below. I've only ever seen planes pass starboard and below. Maybe that's an aviation rule?

    If I can't find out what it was I'll report but if I saw I'd like to think the pilot saw too as he has a better view than me 😂

    It can be found if you have access to flightradar24, registration G-UASA, there are records of flights for some time, but nothing I can see that close to Dublin. Mostly operating closer to Wales.

    Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

    That was Rescue 116 you saw. They were out at Liffy yesterday.

    No this was a much smaller drone but an article about the old 116 crash showed a drone that could be similar to it. It was weird that it was so far out though. Could it be that they released it from the helicopter nearby but I just couldn't see the helicopter maybe

    Drones & Helicopters dont mix, let alone to release one from a Helicopter, thats not going to happen.

    Was it one of these? The EU and Lenoardo have been working on these drones down in the med. This was the type of drone the Navy are using.

    The report says they were using a Phantom 4 Pro, hardly something so great for Naval jobs.
