Dooly’s seem to be temporarily closed

    Where’s the best in Waterford?

Any places freshly battering the fish?

The Marian in town or East Pier in Dunmore East are my choices.

Dooly's was open on Sunday anyway.

Dooly's was open on Sunday anyway.

    They were open yesterday too.

Best in the city is Johnny Walkers in my opinion, and in the county would have to be East Pier in Dunmore, also And Chips in Dungarvan is really good too.

Danny's in Barrack St is nice if you can find a chisel to remove the batter, but dooleys is the nicest by far in my opinion.

    Tks for all replies

I would have to go with East Pier in Dunmore East. The fish is freshly dipped in batter to order rather than made in advance and refried.

Any of the Dooleys in Tramore would be a close second.

Another +1 for Dannys. Very tasty fish and chips and very big portions.

East Pier in Dunmore East for fish and O'Shea's in Dunmore East for chips

They'd be cold by the time you'd get to eat them together

    How big are those Pollocks?

It's definitely not cod anyway, could be hake?

As your man in the Marian used to say, cod is too expensive. Any of the chippers who are selling you "fresh" cod is either frozen or not cod at all.

So we're being cod the whole time?

Chippers rarely use fresh cod due to cost and waste.

Their version of 'fresh' is serving it up to you there and then.

Its a shame that neither of these deliver on justeat, the chippers on just eat in waterford arent great.

Yeah its rare that you find Cod in chippers these days.

Its mostly Hake, Pollock. Cod has been severely overfished, and is a fairly expensive fish.

O'Shea's probably do the best combination of both, I found the fish to be nice over at East Pier but the hand full of chips that came with very greasy and not as nice. Don't think I'd be in a rush to go back especially with the long queues.

Used to be a great chipper back in the day. Remember stopping there regularly after a game down the RSC. Has changed hands plenty of times since afaik. I personally haven't tried it in a long time.
