Anyone noticed the amount of British registered cars around over the last week? Is there no way to stop these people coming in here?

I know alot of people going over buying cars at the moment, the exchange rate is excellent. Could be a contribution to the numbers you are seen.

Good point...I’m just coming across this..

“It is estimated that there are 300 major and minor crossings along the 310-mile (499 km) NI / ROI border.”.... ( source, Wikipedia )

Not a cats in hells chance we have the resources to police that..

Loads of them around here but, then again, there's a very large number of people working here who live in N. Ireland.

No restrictions, possibly because of the CTA. Unless the UK joins the Red zones. Can't see that happening myself, but anyway.

Was in Wicklow over the weekend and every second car on the M11 to join the M50 North was NI registered, well you know what I mean. And I suspect the same was happening Southbound too.

Don't get me wrong I have no problem with these people visiting at all, but it seems a bit lax somehow. I dunno.

I'll stay open minded for now. The stats from NI are good so that's a positive.

Laura on Reddit Ireland's daily recap:
    • New Cases: 6
    • Total Cases: 25,766
    • New Deaths: 0
    • Denotified: N/A
    • Total Deaths: 1753
    • Median age: 83
    • Underlying conditions: 94%

94% with underlying conditions. Is that 94% of deaths yeah?

And Scotland for that matter too.

    I think so

Very true, and Scots are great craic just like ourselves. But I don't know if many venture to the South (roi), not sure, anyway Scotland is a great place to visit apart from the midges in Summer. lol.

Did a road trip a few years ago from Larne to Cairnryan and went all over. Was brilliant.

I am glad to see the stats are good today.

However it's a fkn rollercoaster really. One day great, two days later R rate is dangerous and close EVERYTHING. Don't go abroad and so on.

I suppose it will be up and down for a long while yet, but in fairness we are doing ok I hope.

I think when we are doing the guts of 10k tests a day fluctuations between 10 and 30 are pretty miniscule in reality.

British people have Irish residency rights (and vice versa) under the CTA without any permission or documentation needed (unlike, for example, between Schengen countries, where you still need to get a permit to settle in a different country). So very hard, if not impossible, to stop their entry, by air or ferry.

Also cars in England are very cheap, I have brought one over which will be on the yellow plates for another few weeks

Of course deaths! Unless people with underlying conditions are absolutely going out of their way to get infected :pac:

I think the words Cause and Concern should be wiped from the dictionary.
    My two cents

Yes I think most understand that. But the issue is that Gov is saying one day open up, next day close down, don't go on holidays, the Ro rate is rising, we'll be at 200 cases a day within a week.

We are in the middle of a communication deficit. Need clarity now.

Possibly, but I hope they have our interests at heart. Will give the benefit of the doubt, but if the mixed messages and dreadful communication continues from the new Administration, I'm afraid I might have to think it out again!

Will give them a pass for now, but not at the expense of any more avoidable deaths though.

Parks aren't much fun in the rain I should imagine.

Have you never been a park when it was raining?

I didn't make any comment on it's merits. But I see why they would do it for sure.

Last week would generally be a busy one every year for visitors from up north due to those of a particular persuasion wanting to avoid the July 12th celebrations.

I know myself in the museum I work in, a large chunk of our visitors last week were from the North. We have everything set up to comply with social distancing anyway, so as long as they aren't a crowd from Texas*, I am not in the least bit concerned.

    * a lot of Americans arrive in Sept/Oct when flights over are cheaper. Expect a swell that time of year for those wary of their arrival.

Any idea where the supermarket cases / clusters are?

They didn't say where but pointed out it was among staff members working together, not the customers.

They need to give us context, this could be a large newsagents in Ballybackofmyhole with zero space or a Superstore.

I hope we will have copied Canada long before then.

The border between the United States and Canada has been closed since the 21st March as a precautionary measure to curtail the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

Canada... 111,124 cases and 8,858 deaths.

USA... 3,958,460 cases and 143,743 deaths.

Some fella on twitter has tried calculating R. Wouldn’t entirely believe it but worth a look.

Does anyone know if cases classified as nosocomial in the official statistics include hospital worker infections, or just patient infection?
