    Can someone give me a brief summary of the correct way to transfer/license a firearm when it is bought through a private sale.

    Does the new owner apply for the license first and previous owner cancel or is there a form to transfer ownership.

    Also can someone give me a rough price evaluation for

    The BEST way to do this is................
    1. Ask and get the full price of the firearm from the buyer. The buyer now 'Owns' the firearm.
    2. You the seller provides the buyer with a letter 'Bill of Sale'. Detailing your details, Full Name, Address, The firearm license number, The firearm Serial number, Calibre, Make and Model
    3. The buyers details.
    4. And state that the firearm will not be handed over to the buyer until a 'Current Firearms License' for the firearm has been shown to you from the buyer.
    5. If the buyer fails to get a license then you put the firearm into a dealers because they own the firearm, and let them sort it all out from there. This is the main reason for asking for the full price up front. You don't wan't to be left waiting whilst the buyer waff's about getting (or not getting) a license.
    6. You could also put the firearm into a dealers and do a sub for another firearm.

    The buyer will apply for a license for the firearm with your letter the 'Bill of Sale'
    You can then complete either the FAC 1 form if doing a sub, OR the FAC 2 form if your giving up the current firearms license for the firearm.

    Easy, I've done a few times now, both bought and sold this way.

    • Contact the seller
    • Agree to meet in a safe and neutral place (gun shop or range)
    • Agree on a price
    • Leave a small deposit and agree terms on both the deposit and what occurs in the event of a refusal.
    • Get a receipt for the deposit with the outstanding balance
    • Apply for the license
    • Once the license is got meet the seller again in the shop or range
    • Produce your license as proof

    • Agree on a price and pay it all upfront
    • Store gun in RFD or range for buyer
    • Go about your merry way

    For the license you fill in the FCA1 in the normal way with only a few exceptions. In section 3.3 of the FCA1 (source of firearm) the buyer would insert the seller's certificate details as opposed to the RFDs PULSE ID. Once the deal is done and the buyer has acquired their license, they should provide a copy of it to the seller before handing over the firearm. You provide them with a receipt for the firearm and use an FCA2 to cancel the license or an FCA1 to transfer to a new firearm (if that is the case).

    Buyer/new owner applies for a license first. Once they get it they can take possession of the firearm. This can be done one of two way:
    1. Via an RFD where the gun is stored while the buyer gets the license
    2. Privately where the seller holds onto the firearm until the buyer gets their license.

    In case number one and assuming all the asking price was handed over at the start of the deal the seller can use the FCA1 to substitute their license onto a new gun or an FCA2 to cancel it.

    In case number two the seller holds off on transferring the license until the buyer gets their license at which point the seller transfers or cancels their own license.
    Also can someone give me a rough price evaluation for
    Take what you paid for the kit, judge the condition and depending on how anxious you are to sell reduce the new price by between 10 to 35% and that is your asking price.

    One other thing.

    Clivej says to get the full payment up front, which is fine if both parties agree but a lot of times the buyer won't want to hand out hundreds if not thousands without knowing if they will get the license. RFDs ask for a deposit and most buyers will only offer a deposit so if selling you need to be aware of this being the case.
