I drove to Cork today and noticed a big amount of black and yellow number plates heading to Kerry. The amount of modern D reg luxury cars and SUV's was off the scale altogether.

We must be getting a huge amount of staycationers that would have usually gone abroad at this time of year. It's scary really, a friend of mine who works there told me that there are droves of busloads of American's visiting Blarney Castle to kiss the stone since last week.

Whoever is calling the shots with regard to keeping the second wave under control needs to tell us what the plan is.

Coveney and Martin should be called out on travel from the US and UK where there is high cases still

First weekend of fine weather since restrictions were lifted, Banna was very busy today, most places were id say, yesterday on Radio Kerry the amount of texts about people hitting Dingle for the weekend was crazy,
I know we have to live with the virus and its always going to be there but there seems to be a bigger virus going around at the moment and that is the lack of common sense virus

There is a big tag rugby competition planned for Banna early September. It’s going to be one colossal beach party.

I went to Dingle and Slea Head for a drive today, Dingle was thronged, every sort of person imaginable. If there isn't 20+ new cases within Kerry daily next week it will be a miracle. I had planned a walk on Inch Beach but it too was packed with a serious amount of undesirables, basically the sort of chav thrash that would be found in the eco-systems of Benidorm and Malaga wound up in Dingle and Inch today. I would say there was a 0.5 - 1% mask wearing rate also with zero social distancing observed. I wore a mask myself and had some smart comments from what sounded like Limerick city accents.

Man drives from Kerry to Cork in his SUV is outraged at people driving from Cork to Kerry in their SUV's.

Edit... waits for life saving excuse for journey to Cork.

Cluster in Killarney reported. Apparently 30 people and only partied amongst themselves for a few days. I'm sure they had to go to some sort of shop for food / drink.

Sorry Rambo but you've misread the situation here, there was no SUV or outrage involved on my behalf. I was just sharing a few observations on a thread I have an interest in.

I don't have any excuse for you either.

    Stay safe Rambo.

You were there too though. You can't drive to Dingle and then give out there was a crowd there.

You're part of the "off the scale" problem if you're driving to Cork and back, you're not sharing your observations, you're bitching about other people inter county driving in D reg, black and yellow plates, luxury cars, staycationers while you're doing the exact same thing.

Just wondering, if you go for a meal in a pub without a booking, are they still meant to take your contact details?

We ate a meal in a bar in Killarney on Wednesday and it only dawned on me yesterday that they didn’t ask us for any details. It was just me, my husband and our 4 year old but I thought they were meant to take details? Maybe I’m wrong as they probably don’t in cafes etc.
Yeah, the taking of details is essential. I'd be having strong words with any establishment that wasn't taking contact details from every walk-in group.

The main difference between bookings and walk-ins is that walk-ins have to be kept 2m from other groups while bookings can be spaced 1m apart.

We didn't have a booking, and it had good little booths to sit in so not next to anyone. It only dawned on me the following day that they didn't ask us for any contact details!

Why is this? I havent heard of it. I just assumed it was 2m across the board?

Haven't heard this either. How are diners who ring ahead less contagious then walk in customers? All should be giving name and contact details. In fairness, so far we've been asked for names and numbers the times we've gone out since restaurants opened up...apart from one cafe we were in for just coffee and scones, we were there for an hour and some people were having meals.....are cafes exempt?

Too early to tell if yesterday's Killarney case was just the calm before the storm, but at least no-one was added to the tally today.

Where are the county figures now . The geohive county by county map has been taken down.

I ate in a well known establishment in Tralee today. No details taken(I didn’t expect them to be taken either though) and it was a carvery set up so there was queuing involved with a good bit of difficulty maintaining any sort of 2m distance. Saying that, the food was delicious and the tables well spaced out.

I think this is a bit harsh and same for the Kerry cork etc. As stated as long as common sense prevails. You can go to Dingle and find a secluded spot get out and enjoy the scenery or you can be an idiot and walk around the town as if nothing is going on eating a Murphy's ice cream window shopping.Nothing wrong with Murphy's ice cream by the way. I go to Cork regular because I have a mother nearly 90 cocooning living on her own. If I start giving out about SUV ,English plates etc going the opposite way does that mean someone here is going to jump down my throat . Don't judge before knowing the facts. There are plenty of idiots out there but there are plenty of sensible people out there too.

It was a fudge introduced to allow for 1m distancing in the hospitality sector. The arguement being that bookings are less 'risky' than walk-ins.

All the covid rules are completely arbitrary but you have to draw the line somewhere.

These rules specifically apply to licenced premises. If this was in a bar, they are being pretty negligent with not taking contact details and should be called out on it.

This is also most likely the reason for the 1m/2m difference between bookings and walk-ins. It's all too easy for contact details of walk-ins not to be taken.

I haven't heard if cafes are required to take contact details but I'm assuming not. No alcohol involved so regarded as less risky.

There's a confirmed case in Caherciveen Hospital (Staff member)
    Was in town this morning.
Hard to find anyone wearing a mask & plenty of tourists around.
I hear there have been lots of caravans arrived in a local site.
Only a matter of time before this blows up & we have no one to blame but ourselves

There myself on saturday and saw plenty of people with masks on in the Centra at end of town, fair play to them. Lots of D and English reg cars around the place alright. I would guess caravan sites are full. Some amount of people outside the Blind Piper Sat evening! Scary to look at

There is a new confirmed case local to us here in south Kerry, the person attended a funeral in Dublin recently is showing no symptoms but it was discovered as they are tested regularly because they are working in a Cork hospital.

It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better and the people in charge need to clamp down on flights arriving into the country.

Has anyone noticed a distinct lack of communication from govt to the public since the handover to FF? I mentioned it to the missus this evening and it just seems like a disaster since Leo and Co were stood down.

Having listened to Martin's 'statement' the other day about masks, I really miss Leo and Co. "Umm" "Umm" "mumble." Dreadful speaker and seemingly in over his head within the first week of getting the job. Having moved here 5 years ago, we're not familiar with FF all that much, but the neighbors all wore long faces when we asked them about FF and how dreadful the lot of them were. So far, unimpressed, Leo and Coveney did a great job on Brexit, bad timing to hold the election in February imo, holding it today FG wins in a landslide.
