    Hi guys,

I've been a massive fan of the wrangler for years. Just browsing at the minute but there seems to be slim to none here in the Republic, anyone have any idea why that is?

Also any ones I do find seem to hold their value more than any other car/ suv I've seen.

10 year old ones seem to be going for the 20k mark. Any ideas why that is?

Check out some safety \ crash reviews on these before you part with your cash.

There was one on adverts for 4k, ad was taken down might still be for sale though. I think there cool, op is correct, don't crash it. Probably need to be handy with a welder if not paying top dollar.

Not something I’d be checking when buying a car to be honest, it is what it is and wouldn’t stop me buying what I wanted.

Think it’s the €2350 motor tax that keeps the numbers so low

Can they be commercialised to get the tax down to 333?

There was a few sold back in the noughties when they were part of Daimler and had a lot more dealers here, they didn't come with a diesel though.
They have a diesel now but the cheapest tax is €1200 and the retail price is €65000.

3 for €10k, bit of fun to drive around in but cost of tax a killer. Very weird feeling driving down a motorway with the doors off.

They are cool but JEEP also got a bad reputation for reliability unfortunatly which did them no favours. I remember talking to a Hotel owner who had one and he said everything that could go wrong had gone wrong. This was the Cherokee he had. He eventually changed it for a Lexus SUV.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Make sure you drive one first. I rented one in the states a few years back. First and only time I had motion sickness while driving. But they are cool looking.

Apologies for reviving an old thread. I found this when searching for something else.

I've owned three Wranglers, so I'm biased, but I thought I'd add my views in case anyone else found this as well.

    The bad ...

    • Up until the JL (2018+), they drove like a tractor. The JL 2018+ is a lot better and can work as a daily driver, but don't expect a Range Rover.
    • Road Tax is high, and I feel it every year.
    • Mileage is crap, 20-25 mph.
    • Pre-2018 the unlimited (long wheelbase) had a horrible turning cycle.
    • Almost impossible to get in Ireland.
    • Roof racks are awkward.
    • Finally, you get Zoolander jokes about gas-station fights - that was a Ford Bronco, not a Jeep Wrangler. 🙄

    The good ...

    • It's big enough to carry almost anything.
    • It will go almost anywhere; I have never gotten stuck. I like to take photos and go kayaking, and I've ended up in some weird places. I've also gone through 3-4 feet of snow without issues.
    • It's the perfect summer car ... you can take the doors and roof off in a few minutes. This sounds like a waste of time in Ireland, but I've done it to mine nearly every summer. It's the ultimate convertible.
    • It's the perfect winter car ... it can drive through floods (> 30 inches), snow etc.
    • There's a great accessories market in the US.
    • They are unusual; you don't see many of them.
    • Finally, they hold their value well. I bought my first one in 2010 for €13,500 and sold it in 2014 for €14,000. I bought my second one in the UK in 2015 (I've lived there at the time) for £22,500, and I got over €30,000 in 2020 in Ireland.

I'm sure many people will disagree with me, but I wanted to share my opinion.

Really like Jeep as a brand, shame they are not popular here- very poor marketing and price packaging. Was a time in the late 90s where they were and the Cherokee commercial diesel was up there with the Land cruiser for popularity with farmers.

Also like the Renegade with it’s Tonya toy looks!

Jeep never came close to the popularity of the landcruiser and I like them too BTW

I never recall Jeep being overly popular here in the 1990s. Yeah there were a few knocking around alright but the likes of the Landcruiser, Trooper, Patrol and Pajero ruled the roost when it came to 4x4 farming workhorses here.
