So it has to be illegal?

I don't do any form of shooting but somehow Amazon seems to think I might want a Gamekeepers trip wire cartridge alarm, Bisley Alarm Mine is what they call it.

Funnily enough they are right I'd love to have one but not a chance I think its anyway legal in Ireland even though Amazon.co.uk seem happy enough to post one out to me along with the cartridges. I've test ordered both and then cancelled the order.

While I've no intention of ordering one I'd be interested to double check that they would class as some form of firearm and be illegal here?

They would be legal afaik. However they use a blank and you would need either a shotgun license or authorisation from your local Superintendent to purchase said blanks.
Amazon.co.uk seem happy enough to post one out to me along with the cartridges.
I doubt it as the advert clearly says:
Requires 12g blanks, NONE are supplied.
Also as soon as you entered your address the advert/sale would be flagged as being outside of the UK and i'd imagine the sale would be terminated due tot he laws required to ship "ammunition" between countries.
I've test ordered both and then cancelled the order.
If the sale went through you would have had to order the blanks separately and if they allowed that to go through then that is a failure in Amazon's policies. As soon as it hit customs either in the UK or here they would have been seized, you'd get a knock on the door and possibly some stern words or even a court date.
While I've no intention of ordering one I'd be interested to double check that they would class as some form of firearm and be illegal here?
The device would not be a firearm as it is not barrelled, and uses blank ammunition. Same a blank firing firearm. They're not real guns so while you don't need a license for one, you DO need authorisation from your local Garda Superintendent to own and possess one.

Plus there are plenty of law which govern where you can have it and how you can use it, even as a blank firer, and they would be treated the same as a real firearm if you "acted the maggot" with one.

I know lads in the UK who use them in workshops after they had visits in the dead of night from the lightfingered nomads. Legal over there so i am told as they do nothing but cause a massive bang.

Once you put the "test "order in your details would have been passed to the authorities here very foolish thing to do:rolleyes:

I was once summoned to the Garda station to explain why i was pricing a chamber reamer, which is just a shaped drill bit really From a stockist in the UK. A reamer is not a part of a firearm, not containing any primer, propellant or explosive, and i do not see how it can be illegal to possess.

When i went in, the detective had everything in a folder, the letter (it was pre email days) i had sent, a statement from the stockists in England, a load of technical stuff from the ballistics department etc.

I'm kind of curious how a detective knew you were pricing up such things? Were the PTB opening up your post?

Simmilar happend to me in the1990s.
Orderd some literature on the then novel Calico 9mm and .22 carbine from the English importer.Got the literature no problem and then about 4 weeks later an invite from a plainclothes detective I knew to meet for a cup of coffee in town and a chat about it!
Nothing ever came of it,as he seemed more curious about how I knew about this company and that they were, selling these.?As they were advertising them in the now defunct Handgunner magazine....:pac:

More than likely the UK company was a cover operation by some 3 letter agency, for who or whatever purpose. As it disappeared real quick after that chat from both Handgunner magazine and the phone number was disconnected as well when I tried to ring them to WTF ?them on this.

I know several farmers who use these, mainly to discourage members of a certain community who like to visit farmyards at night, and also set in gaps in hedges at lambing time to frighten foxes. My own father used a homemade version fashioned from a gate latch.

As I mentioned I won't be buying any but those are exactly the uses I'd like to get a couple for.

It was back when the marxist freedom fighters were reeking havoc up north. I would imagine that gun dealers/wholesalers/gunsmithing tool sellers in the UK were told any correspondence from Ireland, report it.

Nothing came of it, i went to the station, told them the issue and that was that, never heard another word about it.

    I'd concur on this theory.

Nifty little gadget if you want to catch the two legged or other pests ,or be alerted that they are about.Basically a self contained PIR and transmitter unit you put in some place you want watched, which when the beam is triggerd sends to a receiver up to 100 meters away[I'd be a bit skeptical on that, maybe over a flat field?].It was developed for boar hunting and stand shooting, but could be quite useful too here for foxes, etc.

It would be interesting to surround the 12 guage alarm cartridge with a plastic bag containing paint.
I wonder what kind of spread/radius you would achieve??

Would you essentially be making a bomb if you did that? I know it's only paint, but still.

Agghhhh, it went into my eye. Personal injury claim.

    Possibly, indeed probably.
But it's also possible that you'd get sued by some scrote who got a fright when he tripped the alarm trip wire and is suffering post traumatic stress disorder as a result!

I'll ask one of the people I know that has one to try that, and get back to you ;)
