Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Nitride coatings on bullets and bores

    Firstly let me state that I don't do this but it's of interest to me.

    David Tubbs and others are using Heximead Boron Nitride Powder coatings to get better consistency.

    Is anyone else doing this or is this viable tactic

    Has any one here ever managed to get a barrel plasma ion nitride coated in an industrial process?

    Im sure it works to an extent, sounds like a snake oil sale with all of these seemingly magical improvements though.

    That might be the case but it could work. Nitride coating via hot salt Cyanide baths or nitride infusion via pulse driven ionisation closed chambers is an established metal treatment creates such hardness that parts can't be machined once it's applied or at least not with ease.

    Cyanide Baths are dangerous and the residues have obvious effects if not fully cleaned away, plasma infusion on the other hand is super safe achieving the same goals.
    It's all very specific to automotive and aviation industries.

    It's the type of treatment that's only recommended on established barrels that are broken in, as once applied you won't be able to smooth out any irregularities in the bore.
    Any one ever hear of it being done in Ireland or UK?
