No laying up podcast

    Sorry if there is a thread for this already but just wondered what peoples opinions of this are?

    I've listened to a few recently and the rich beem was enjoyable

    They’ve some really good YouTube content too. They filmed a great Irish trip last summer, I thought Carne was the highlight, they really captured how special it is.

    I've been listening to them a while now and they're top drawer.....they're way less cheesy than other American ones out there and are pretty balanced in their views....and they do come across as genuinely witty guys which makes the content that bit more enjoyable too, in my opinion.....the tourist sauce youtube series around the west of Ireland (which included my old stomping ground) was excellent also and definitely worth checking out...you'd definitely get a sense of pride in what we offer in terms of golf after watching it....

    The no laying up, OTB Golf Weekly and Sky Sports Golf podcasts would be the ones i'd regularly.....NLU and OTB would be very close in terms of being my favourite...

    The MyGolfSpy "No Putts Given" ones have some good info in them generally. and the GolfScienceLab one also can have some good guests & info too.

    Probably more detail oriented, rather than entertainment I would say

    They're good -and I second some of the YouTube content.

    Couple more I would mention for the golf addicts...

    Good Good golf podcast - Aussie based but absolute gold in content.

    McKellar Golf - weekly chat between Lawerence Donegan & John "huggy" Huggan (Scots journalist). Brilliant & they have guests on a few times also.

    Paddy Golf -- local guy from Lahinch who has had some excellent pods with an Irish flavour lately.

    Life in the loop - chats with some of the caddies. Ive only started these but so far so good.

    Its particularly brilliant

    Another great one is the episode with Mark Leishmans Caddy in the build up to the Masters a couple of years ago, really really interesting in terms of how they break down the course and build their strategy

    Thanks for this - I'm a big fan of donegan and his books like no news at throat lake - California dreaming and a few golf ones.

    I like it most of the time, and they've had some brilliant guests (the story of Steve Elkington and his run in with Bubba is hilarious) - but sometimes they go very American and are a bit OTT.

    I like the Fried Egg and the Yolk with Doak for the discussions on design and golf course architecture - I kind of feel they help with my game when they explain why and how golf course architects like to mess with players' heads!

    i'd agree with that. i've gotten used to it over the years but for a long time the frat boy-ish catchphrases and giggling seemed a bit much when they were together as a group. i think they've gotten a bit better at holding back on that.

    Donegan is behind McKellar magazine. It's excellent with much more of a non USA focus than say Golfers Journal

    Probably posted a few times - but more important now with no golf or travel.

    If you started season one of No Laying Up Tourist Sauce (Australia) - and work your way through Scotland , Ireland, California , Carolina - not sure of sequence - but you have yourself a month worth of escapism and dreaming.

    Decent bottle of wine and good HD tv and your sorted.

    The lads at the end of the day seem rich kids - spoilt with what looks like an all expenses paid trip and to be honest, dream job. But their is something likable in them , a bit of anti establishment, dare I say socialism in them. There is an interesting mix of characters in the group. The deeper artistic southern, cool connected comedian, business brain good golfer, articulate softer likable guy. They have a nice balance of golfers in the group ( well maybe not an out and out high handicap golfer). But you can relate to one or all and can see how random golf is for the typical amateur - good one day , amazing , to can hardly hit the ball.

    By the way - I didn't know Americans have so many variations of golf , that to be honest, looks a load of crap to us Irish - we love our real golf , betting on golf in Ireland is a joke, we seem to take a round of golf more serious and finish out way more , Their various scoring system would have your head spinning. If anything it gives you an insight of what their game is like and how different handicaps are.

    As someone said (and I'm not often a fan of disruptors / influencers) They have done it in as soft and as clever a way as it can be - but the primary drive is Callaway and BMW at the end of the day . To be Irish for a second (lucky Bastards)

    Anyway - take a look on a smart TV or cast if you can , looking at the courses on a laptop takes a bit from it.

    I think the last episode was was broadcast last night - so they will struggle to put anything out for a while.

    Agreed Fix, they're a really good watch and well produced

    The strapped series stuff is good too, trying to do golf on the cheap.

    Listening to the Greg norman podcast - really interesting (not always factually correct). The part of norman doing a Saturday slam is crazy.. before my time really norman remember 96 but didnt realise I how many times he came second in majors

    Can honestly say dont regret it. Was excellent. Never had him down be that funny. Monty stories are epic alright.

    Just started watching these on YouTube... I'm loving everything about what these guys do. Watched the Carolinas first, now watching the Irish one. With Enniscrone 30mins away and Cairns 1hr I know we're spoilt for choice here but great to hear these guys say it. What got me is the betting.. I don't bet, but can someone explain (if u have watched it) "gonna push" when they are betting on a hole??? Thks OP for bringing this to me at least..

    Seems to complicated for me I'll stick with my front 9 back 9 bets :-)

    One thing borrowed from them that we've incorporated into our golf trips is the last birdie bet - everyone chucks a tenner in at the start of the trip, the person who scored the last birdie of the trip gets the pot.

    It keeps some interest going until the last hole of the last day. Usually by that stage someone has pretty much secured the overall "win" or the trip.

    I've been listening to NLU for the last 18 months or so. Loads of good and interesting content there. They did a great one about 2 years ago, it's an episode in the 130s i think, about modern golf stats and describes all the strokes gain stuff, what it means, how it's calculated and where it came from. Makes golf viewing a lot more enjoyable knowing what the commentators are talking about.

    The recent ones with Brad Faxon are good too.
