Hey everyone been quite a few years since I was on this been away living in new zealnd for a long time just back and looking at getting my licence here. Been shooting mostly 300 win mags and 308's in nz so looking really for a 300 win mag here but where can I get ammo for it ? I normally would shoot 300 rounds a month but if I remember correctly hand loading inst allowed here in Ireland?? So any info would be much appreciated

You might want to price .300 win mag ammo here before you buy one. Last time i seen a box, the price nearly gave me a nose bleed.

Only on one site , midlands range, I believe , no home reloading,

A buddy of mine is talking about coming home and like yerself has a win mag over there. My advice to him was/is, .22LR, .223 and a .308.

Obviously I don't know your financial position however 300 rounds of win mag would cover a mortgage.

How much roughly for a box of 20 rounds I was paying about 100 dollars which is around 45 euro i think not 2 fussed wint be shooting it as much here as wont be hunting with it will be mostly just long range target shooting any suggestions where to buy a rifle now ? I had a tikka and a remmy in 300 but dont seem to be able to get them over here from a quick Google search? And it's such a pain u cant hand load over here !

I remember talking to a shooting buddy of mine about 300win mag here, the price was eye watering compared to standard centre fire ammo. The only thing I can find as an example is 7mm Rem Mag Hornady 154gr SST Superformance €62.00

You'll purchase the regular stuff from .243 up to 30-06 between, roughly, €30-€55 per box of 20. There are the exceptions to the prices up or down, for instance I can get Sako 123gr FMJ 30-06 for €20 or pay €68 for hunting round, but other wise I'm paying around €35 for my average hunting rounds.

Rifle wise you'll be able to order in a new one through a dealer or import one in, but I don't belive they are too popular in the UK.

If its only for range work and long distance targets then the old reliable 308 may be the man or the new fangled 6.5's (:D) would be more suitable in regards to rifles, availability of ammo and running costs. If its medium range targets that may take your fancy then a .223 would be even more pocket friendly.

Just to give you the heads up in case there's a misunderstanding.
Re centrefires and in particular .243 upwards, you may (more than likely as common practice) be required to get a deer hunting licence which means either the appropriate land permission with deer or a paid let such as Coilte (it's self requiring another set of procedures) or another route would be club membership to an appropriate rifle range that can cater for your chosen calibre and practice.

Yup it's still pretty good tho u can walk into ur local gun store buy as many guns as u want there and then in e u have u have a licence for it and as much ammo as u want I used to buy my .223 rounds in cases of 500's

Best advice here is go to a few ranges, it depends where you will be based and how far you are willing to travel to shoot and at what distances. There are really only two ranges that I am aware of in the Republic of Ireland that you can shoot over 100m. Midlands and An Riocht shooting ranges. (There could be more im not aware of)

If you go to the ranges most Saturdays there are a few guys around to whom you can ask questions and get some advise, but most importantly get the guns you want to shoot, if that means ordering from the UK then let me know ive completed the process for people on a number of occasions. This lets you get the type of guns you want.

Sounds good only 2 ranges out to 100m that's not a great choice I was shooting out to 700m in New Zealand but beggers cant be choosers i guess it's more about getting good grade ammo more than anything

No, only 2 range that have ranges over100m. Midlands out to 1000y,
