Hi all,

    Good article by an ex-Kildare player detailing some of Dublin's advantages in the current set-up. He doesn't mention population which is of course another key component.

    I personally continue to believe Dublin will have to be split to rectify these imbalances.

    Or just amalgamate Kildare and Meath.

    If "financial doping" had any benefit for Dublin GAA, it certainly didn't help standards in Dublin hurling. After seeing them today against Clare they are as further away from reaching the steps of Hogan stand for Liam McCarthy glory as they ever have before.

    Love how its always the NFL comparison thrown out there.

    As if Sam Maguire has it any worse than the Heineken Cup, NBA, or Big European Soccer leagues when it comes to number of champions since 2000,

    Tbf while Dublin has slipped again in hurling the last few years, they unquestionably improved a huge amount in the late 00's, early 10's.
    They won their first Leinster title since 1961 !, and also reached 4 Leinster finals in 6 years (the first time they've done that since the 1960's).
    It also saw them win a National Hurling league title, only a 3rd in history.

    They've lost some very good hurlers from that period, and due to the fact almost every strong dual player they have chooses the Footballers, it's harder to replace those players as quick as Dublin Footballers can replace them, but I'm sure Dublin will strengthen again in the next few years.

    But is Dublin going through a golden period of hurling for the first time in 50 years at the same time as they're receiving considerable funding compared to others counties a coincidence ?, perhaps but it seems unlikely.
