Why was EI782 (DUB-LPA) rerouted to TFS today ?

Calima which is effectively a sand storm. I think TFS closed too.

I’m in Lanzarote atm and some planes were rerouted to Fuerteventura around lunchtime , visibility was v poor at that stage
Our hotel is v close to runway and we couldn’t even see the planes coming in, could only hear them
There were 2 go arounds at that stage and they were diverted after that, one after 1 attempt and another after 2 attempts
Sahara sand everywhere, eerie yellow light all day, but improved in the late afternoon. Locals say it’ll last most of week

App tomorrow some flights are already cancelled, flying back tomorrow and waiting to hear if we’re affected
Much windier than usual and the hotel have tidied away pool furniture. Haven’t seen that before so they’re obviously expecting bad weather tomorrow

Stayed in that Hotel Beatriz next to ACE once, nice place.
Is the concern just visibility, or sand getting into engines etc?

Aer Lingus flight from Las Palmas to Cork has now been cancelled.

Aer lingus have rescheduled the flight for tomorrow lunchtime weather depending
It does seem the mornings are clearer as there was flights landing in ACE til lunchtime
They were no help in the airport though, texted and emailed to let us know re cancellation but no one there to help with accomodation as was promised
Our hotel was fully booked and couldn’t accommodate us, handling agents had reserved all spare capacity
Most people had to book their own and there’s v little available on the island due to all the cancelled flights
Hopefully it can land tomorrow
Some flights took off around 6 pm
