    Just saw Mary Lou’s speech.

Absolutely pathetic stuff. A complete rehash of old arguments with absolutely nothing new or any semblance of how she intends to pay for the myriad of offering she plans to provide.

Maybe it’s just me but I cannot see them building on their vote down here in the south if that’s the best they can offer.

They get a vote in the north on traditional lines, like the way people in the Republic used to just vote FF without taking any heed of their policies.

The one policy she seems to have is this referendum on a united ireland. I reckon it’s well down the list of priorities of people down here.

SHE doesn’t plan on paying for it. The wealthy will pay for it. Which basically means anybody on €35000 (the top rate of tax).

If you are a Republican, you can not be but worried about where Sinn Fein is headed. Their leadership is completely deluded - they are really struggling, even in working class areas. Public sentiment has turned (just look at the comments via online articles). They are no longer a nationalist party, they do not put their own citizens first and have basically become Labour and worse, an open borders socialist party. They are completely at odds with their grass roots view on immigration and have lost a big chunk of support to Aontu.

What stunned me most about her speech was the presumption that Sinn Fein would be in a position to form part of the next government. They could be left with just a handful of seats if public sentiment does not change.

Surely McDonald and O’Neill must see this - at this point Doherty is their best hope of pulling a general election result out of the fire.

Their voted peaked a few years ago and they should have gone into government at that point. I'm not sure what the future holds for them in the RoI. Very to understand what they stand for anymore. Hope the party will die but they'll always attract some votes.

MON was re-elected as SF's vice president at the weekend. Tell us everything we need to know about the mindset within the party. Wonder if PD would consider joining Aontu.

    Just on the website there.
Talking about introducing a new band for folk on over 100,000, I'd reckon that's the ones getting hit more heavily.

FYI: SF may be a republican party, (as FF are when the wind changes) but there are folk who want a UI that aren't in SF.
You assume they are at odds based on your assumptions about their supporters. FG chose Leo against the wishes of the grass roots and we hear all the time how all parties are out of touch with the public when it comes to immigration. I'd suggest in relation to that, empty vessels make the most noise, is all. I don't know of any party seeking open borders. That's tired right wing scaremongering.

It's interesting the way the americanised among us use socialism as an alarm bell. The best policies have their basis in socialism. Even our right wingers are more socialist than the U.S. Democratic party.

Every party thinks they've a chance or can work towards one. Contrary to right wing PR I reckon no party enters politics to lose.

I reckon we'll have a FF government propped up be either FG or a rainbow government, which tends not to last too long. I mean there's 'stability' n FF/FG, if that's all that's important to folk.

Might be a case of sticking to who they are than trying to cadge votes?

They won't get into government, so no outrage needed

Does anyone anywhere know the exact results of the vote?

Did she lose a bit of weight?

SF have lost **** loads of support down here because of how pro establishment and mainstream they have become. They are no different now to the likes of the labour party, apart from their bloody past.

Or that many of their policies actually do not make sense and would hurt the economy

    You're thinking votes.

I always find this kind of thing amusing. What about the economy? Are we worried the crises will get more cris-ier, to paraphrase Bertie?

    Yes.

    Yes.

Fair point. Stick with the stable truck already over the cliff than the unproven truck that will likely go straight for the cliff ;)

They've refused to publish them. They were asked numerous times before the vote and again since would they make the numbers public and consistently declined to...the whole thing was a farce, no hustings, no debate....'democracy' SF style

They'd be the first to call for others to publish figures

No, they refused to publish the result, as noted by the posters above. I've a good friend who was at the conference but I haven't had a chance to speak to him yet.

I don't see why he would, he'll get the top job in SF in the next 10 years, can't see Tobin stepping down for anyone. Will Aontu get anyone elected? The quality of candidates they had in my neck of the woods for the local elections were very poor.

What makes you think that he'll get the top job in the future? He was a better fit for the position than Mary-Lou and he was overlooked last time round.

I agree he should be the leader but for optics or whatever reason I think they wanted someone who wasn't from Ulster to get the leadership. His time will come though. A move to Aontu would be a huge gamble for him. Other that being anti abortion would they have any other differences with Sinn Fein?

Thats because SF were clearly going for the female bandwagon which was in full throttle mode at the time.

It was happening everywhere. Politics, film, TV, radio. Women were being given all the jobs to appease a pc-driven agenda. MON and MLMD were given the jobs to get SF away from the hardline IRA image that many had of SF.

    It didn't seem to work.

ML is very far removed from the average working class Nationalist in the North, I wonder what do they think of her?

Doubt that many know much about her. Ditto for MON in the RoI.
