Woah woah, we got a link to that story of the 11/12 african lads? I mean wtf how much of this is really going on?

Obviously not enough evidence to sustain a murder charge. It was not deliberate.
Or he did a deal and gave up the names of the others

My first thought in this case was that the people who died may have been across the channel more than once. There's still slavery and the like in the world. Even before the crisis in the Med Italy was full of it from reading a few sources, both Chinese and African. The cockle pickers in Morecambe bay, the lads who died a few years ago in Dundalk Bay.
The lucky ones get here and overstay. Why seemingly not destitute people would use this method rather than just overstay is beyond me but I guess I'm missing something.

He probably melted and told all but murder was never the intention imo.

If found guilty what is sentence for 39 manslaughter charges

Even 10 years for each offence means he would not get out until he's 415 years old.

Reported in the media today that the lease for the container was signed by a Ronan Hughes. Any word of anybody having got an interview with him or the the company, Hughes Transport ?
The report said the GPS indicated that the trailer made two return trips between Britain and the continent in the days leading up to the discovery of the bodies.

I first heard this being suggested to me as for back as Wednesday afternoon, but for obvious reasons wouldn't repeat it online.

I suppose it will all come out in time the level of involvement if any that the young fella had in this.

Nothing in the story suggests the 39 were destined for this island.

    Britain is also an island

Fancy truck for a guy who doesn't even work it. Comes outs once a month to move a trailer.

If they were referring to island other than the one this forum is based on, they might have said that.

Where did you get that information from?

Why would they, the thread is about something that happened on another island, there was nothing in the post you quoted to indicate otherwise

And both islands are geographically known as the British Isles.

What seems strange for me is how did/do these immigrants stump up the likes of the money figures quoted?

The likes of me or anyone reading this couldn't come up with that sort of cash. How on earth do dirt poor Vietnamese do it.

I think they have to have so much money upfront and they work for the rest once they get here. Not so different to a form of modern serfdom.

Which you quoted totally out of context, do try to keep up Francis

    What?

There is no evidence at all that those unfortunate people were destined for this island like 'the people in Belfast'.

    That is all I said.

It was said on Sky News that the way they do it is family members come up with the money and when the person makes it to whatever country they are going to and start working the plan is to sent back money to their relatives at home, not ssure how exactly that would work though.

Their parents life savings, based on an interview with father of a young man presumed to be a victim.

A lot of people seem to be denying the blatantly obvious Ireland connection here. 4 Irish people, Irish container, Irish-owned truck, the other driver was arrested in Dublin today ffs. It's clear as day it's some sort of Irish-related gang operating here.

I'd imagine he would have been working as much as he could to pay it off if he does own it.

Trucks don't make any money sitting in the yard.

Who is denying the Irish connection. It's kinda hard to do.

Well, it's unlikely to be linked to a well established legit High Street travel company.
