Hi all,

    Reservoir Dogs is my favorite Tarantino after Jackie Brown, which I feel is underrated. The Kill Bill movies left me cold though, it's not that they're bad or anything, just too...something. The soundtracks of nearly all his movies are brilliant.

    Average film. Like pulp fiction.
    Only 2 films I enjoyed from him were the westerns.

    Jackie brown is hugely under rated, pam grier is a terrific woman

    Many scenes in Reservoir Dogs are stolen/copied a homage to a film made in Hong Kong called 'City on Fire'

    Remember watching resevoir dogs while in college in the Cinema on Parnell Street.

    A few people walked out at the "stuck in the middle with you" scene.

    While I would not call myself a massive fan by any means and allot of the criticism of his films can be justified I genuinely think sometimes people tend to talk down his films because it's in the thing to do.

    Always thought he peaked early. I like a bit of ultra violence like the next person, but found everything after Jackie Brown a little too gory.

    I really don't get the notion that his films are super violent, he's still putting up with that stuff today. I mean at the time, yeah the ear thing in Reservoir Dogs would have been pretty shocking but it's tame enough these days, the Hostel and Saw movies make Tarantino stuff look PG.

    The violence is implied in a lot of his early work, and that makes it have a much greater impact.

    He got a reputation for ultra-violence and it stuck, maybe because of his screenplay for Natural Born Killers as opposed to any of the movies he wrote and directed himself.

    You know, I read a fan theory that the reason why the Bride was able to take down the Yakuza was because they were young trainlings. She had much more difficulty taking down any of the members that were balding (hence more experience) vs the younger members.



    Just an interesting take on it.

    When I finally got round to watching it was like.... what was all the fuss about.

    As with most of Tarantino's movies it's just a load of verbal diarrhea dressed up as 'cool' dialogue.

    Went to see Once Upon a Time in Hollywood the other day -major overindulgent boring yawnfest with little to recommend it and only minor violence at the end. Had the film/script (because there is no plot) been offered by anyone other than Tarrintino it would never have been produced or got past the sherdder.Total waste of 2 1/2 hours of my life. Thank God I'd bought popcorn. Avoid like the plague or better still give the tenner to the childrens hospice.

    Resevoir Dogs on the other hand was mostly a brilliant film.

    Django was brilliant, as was inglorious basterds. Hateful eight wasnt great so interested to see hollywood. Pulp fiction and reservoir dogs are classics at this point.

    Watched Kill Bill V1 on Dave on Saturday night. The usual pre-film warning was This film contains strong language and "over the top violence" :D Has to be the best description of nearly all Tarantino's films. Still love them though. And the soundtracks are brilliant.

    Have you actually watched any martial arts flicks?

    Reservoir Dogs is great even as, as someone else pointed it, it borrows heavily from other sources. I do think Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs were his masterpieces (possibly because of his writing partner at the time) and everythinge else has fallen far short.

    Jackie Brown and Once... are decent, watchable films though.

    I’d find the ear thing more scary, feeling claustrophobic and a bit more rooted in reality. Hostel and Saw were just torture porn.
