Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

brown log book and change of ownership

    after buying a pre 1993 car which the motor tax website says I need to fill out RF200 and send off with brown log book. Problem is there is no space for me to enter my details as the new owner into the logbook, i.e. it has had 6 previous owners.

    Will the tax office sort it or do I need to take a day off and go in person?

    Staple a piece of paper with your name on it to the logbook - the tax office will then stamp it. Thats what I had to do recently.

    Seller sends off the completed form by both parties, and the logbook. Not the buyer

    personally I'd go in personally to make sure I got the original book, plus continuation sheet, back.

    I went in yesterday with the completed form of the beetle I just sold. Handed
    in the form and the logbook.

    They filled out the new owners name in the brown logbook, and handed it back to me.
    I asked why they were giving it back to me.

    They told ME to send it on to the new owner.

    This is a new development to me, as they always sent on the logbook

    I've a notion in the back of my head that the procedure with the old books is that you handed it to the new owner , having signed the form ,and he dealt with having his name added. Opposite to the current procedure.

    You can fill out the form and send it to Shannon, normally put a blank sticker on the back of the logbook then write your name and address on it or you go to your local tax office and they'll do it there and then

    Yep,
    I bought a car on the brown book recently and this is what happened.
    I then brought the book to the tax office and filled out the forms to tax it etc.
    I didnt want to risk sending the brown one to shannon.
    I'm surprised they are not in breach of gdpr or any of that ****e :rolleyes:

    I took the last space for owners (nine?).
    If I ever sell it I take it it gets converted to a new style one?

    While i had the beetle for 15 years in my ownership, my name was never on the logbook.

    Even though i taxed and sorned it online in all those years.

    Tax office tried to tell me yesterday, I was never the owner, nor was the previous owner,

    so iasked for a tax refund then:D:D

    My brown log book arrived by registered post when I transferred ownership on my E30. They're obviously worried about the risk of losing them.

    Wouldn’t mind - gave me a heart attack - thought I was being summonsed or something.

    Either ,
    I wouldn't risk shannon though.
    For fear of them losing it or converting it to a new one.
    Too much history on the line for my liking !

    My local tax office gave me back a logbook for a car I sold, and told me to send it to the new owner.
