Hi all,

    I have a four inch extractor fan that has a built in motor that opens and closes a vent when turned on/off, stops the blow through drafts, it’s called an x-mart vectaire. You can also buy pipe that has an “s” bend built into it to reduce draft.

    Should have mentioned but this is for a room with a wood burning stove, so needs to be permanently open. The vents with the S bend are the Black Hole vents I mentioned above.

    The s-bends in the likes of the Black Hole vents significantly reduce the effective free area of the vent, so you may need to install more of them to get sufficient air flow.

    I got anti draught vents from the below. I found them very reasonable and easy to install.

    The OP may need two of these in the room to get sufficient free area.

    Thanks. These look to be 5 inch? I am looking for ones with 4 inch pipe.

    A 4inch pipe provides more airflow than is actually needed for a 5kw stove, so no reason for me to go to a 5inch unless I can't find a 4inch.

    Might be worth calling them as most vents with the anti acoustics seem to be 4 inch. Could you drill a 5 inch hole?

    I see the TL98P here https://vents.ie/wall-vents/ for £100 ! That's some price for what is just a pipe, filter and grill.

    That website is day light robbery, I bought them from Icon BP for about 28 euro Inc vat. The deal with the public and were very helpful

    Definitely I will check the spec before buying. Once it's at least 6500mm2 I'm good.

    It's not obvious what exactly their product has that reduces noise, do you know?

    I didn't go for the acoustic version as I only have a 4 inch core and there's no outdoor noise where I am.

    Maybe give them a call and I'm sure they can explain, if you do find out let us all know.
