Whenever anyone talks about True Romance, they always mention the scene with Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken....but this was also a great scene and shoot out...

Even the build up was monumental...

    Great shoot outs in film?

And now that I have got my After Hours tendencies out of my system I will take it seriously because I really like this idea for a thread. Good idea Tammy!

Hard Boiled: Just brilliant, all filmed in 1 take. Glorious violence.

EDIT: Collie D got there before me with Heat so I will go with this scene from L.A. Confidential. Brilliant.

The Matrix lobby scene still stands the test of time IMO.

    But!

That said, the Heat getaway shootout is exceptional!

A rather one sided shoot out, but one of the best "oh sh**" moments @ 1:31.

John Wick shootout in his house towards the start of the first film takes some beating I think.

I actually watched John Wick 2 & 3 for the first time yesterday.

Although they're really enjoyable and the fighting/shooting choreography is beautifully done, I just don't think you can beat 80s and 90s films with their blood squibs, blank firing guns and massive explosions.

The CGI blood and gore just doesn't look right.

Always had a soft spot for the scene in Terminator when Arnie assaults the police station. T2 is a great movie, but T1 was just perfection.

Tombstone has a very decent shoutout.

All of the above are also decent, obviously no reloads make the term shootout redundant.

Sadly Heat falls into that category, a shootout must have reloads to make it awesome.

Last man standing, Bruce Willis playing another "John" character doing what he does best, but i just really loved the over the top shootouts, bad guys flying back through the air when they got shot, still holds up well with regards to Entertainment value. A quality shoot'em up movie for those that havent seen and love revenge type movies :)

And then you have the likes of Shoot 'em up, the entire movie is one long over the top daft shoot out, not to be taken serious at all, but myself found it hilariously entertaining. There is pretty much zero story, Clive Owen (the hero) and Paul Giamatti (the villain) both do a terrific job carrying the movie with the characters they play. :)

And lets not forget the slow mo train station shoot out scene from the Untouchables, i watched this countless times as a nipper :pac:

Later to be parodied in the Naked gun 33 1/3's opening in a hilarious fashion :D
