Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Laytown - Why?

    According to Bus Eireann's website, as and from next week, the timetable for the Drogheda to Laytown service will be massively increased.

    There will now be 75 (up from 29) buses daily from Drogheda to Laytown on weekdays - that's a bus every 15 minutes all the way through from 5:20am until midnight.

    Bus Éireann will then be operating a more frequent weekday service from Drogheda to Laytown, than from Drogheda to Dublin City. This is even still the case if you count the many times each day that two or three buses (100X, 101 and 101X) leave together on different routes to Dublin City as separate departures.

    Of course in addition to the 75 Bus Éireann services, Drogheda already has 29 trains each weekday to Laytown, and 26 Matthews private bus services from the Southgate Shopping Centre south of Drogheda.

    Is there actually a demand for this number of Bus Eireann services to Laytown, or would some of the vehicles and drivers be better used to provide services in other areas?

    I say well done to the residents and others that are using the bus service enough to justify increasing the frequency there.

    Something like 7,000 people live in Laytown-Bettystown-Mornington--Donacarney. Possibly more in summer. Getting those people to and from the train stations is useful.
