Usually seems to be the golfer with the best attitude wins the British Open. Small elements of luck involved. But the guy who just gets on with it and take the good with the bad. Let's see how it goes.

If you mean me show me where i trolled ?
I'm a golfer and know what i'm talking about, some people in charge of this thread do not even know the difference between the type of courses we play.
None of us will learn anything from a back slapping echo chamber.

Have a look back through your cards and I’m sure you’ll find a few examples

This is set up lovely for Shane. He is on the right hand side of the draw. Solid 68 tomorrow and he'll be top 5. I'd be nervous about him on Sunday though. The Open, held in NI. Doesn't get bigger really

Justin Rose will be there or thereabouts.

With Tiger it's a flip of the coin.

Fair enough. What happened there. Didn't think he was in contention there from memory? Always 3 or 4 back.

He should have won but collapsed on the last day, has spoken about how it really took a toll on him mentally.
I'll always remember as i had him backed at 80 to 1 !

You are definitely talking about Oakmont. He led that and collapsed in the final round. Chambers Bay he was never truly in it.

I know he finished top 10 but from my recollection he was never close to the lead on the final day? To say he should've won is a stretch, 2016 though he definitely should have

Rory McIlroy talks to BBC Radio 5 Live after shooting an eight-over-par 79:

"I would like to punch myself. I made a couple of stupid mistakes. I was pretty nervous on the first tee and hit a bad shot. I showed some resilience in the middle of the round and was trying to fight back into the championship but then I finished off poorly as well.

"But seven over par combined on the first and last holes makes it very hard for you.

"I hit my first shot out of bounds yesterday but it went right so that might have been in my head a little bit. I turned the ball over a little too much. It was a poor tee shot but not that bad it deserved to go out of bounds.

"If I look back I undid all my good work to recover on the last three holes.

"At the end of the day I play golf to fulfill my ambitions not anyone else's but I wish I could have given the crowd something to cheer about.

"I let myself down more than anyone else and need to pick myself back up.

Anyone feel the sky commentary team is a bit b movie. No butch, where is mcginley? Claude Harmon usually on a bit. I’m finding it tough to watch and listen to tbh. It’s been a long day.

    David Duval +19.

He won it 18 years ago and there's potentially another 13 years of him being allowed to perpetrate this kind of nonsense.

If conditions good tomorrow morn then koepka could go really low

Sorry what happened to him that he got +19 ?

Does Koepka just not care bout anything but the majors?

Thank god there is no Butch. Can't stand him.

There was a 13 on a par 5. That had followed a bogey and quad bogey

He has a granite mentality, that squares perfectly with an attritional set-up. You won't see any trebles or quadruples blighting his card this week.

McGinley is there, he was there earlier. Butch is semi retired. I think he turned up for the Masters.

Pissartist making a show of himself.

Just admit you got the course wrong and move on.

The Rory haters are embarrassing. There was a lot of pressure on him and he had a bad round. It happens.

Does he actually suit these conditions?

He's always been a useless wind player, not sure why he was the 8/1 favourite?

At Birkdale in 2014 I think he had 4 days of perfect dry weather.

2014 was Hoylake, not Birkdale. The weather was not exactly perfect, in fact the Saturday that year was the first time in the history of the Open that there was a 2 tee start, it was absolutely bucketing it down that morning. Having said that the weather was reasonably good that week all in all, particularly on the Friday. I think more so than anything else that the course suited his eye, the fairways are generous enough there, and driver is needed quite a lot.
He shot 61 at Portrush as a kid.

In unusually benign conditions it must be said. The flags aren't even fluttering in the video.

As weird as it sounds Rory didn't really play all that badly today, an awful opening tee shot quickly turned into a total disaster for one hole. Aside from that he was quite solid and unlucky not to be a few shots better by the time he reached the 16th, which is really where he fell to pieces. That 3 putt on 16 was arguably less forgivable than the debacle of the 1st hole, and probably fed into his triple bogey a couple of holes later.

Things not looking too good for Tiger here either, some very strange shots being played by him.

Great start by Shane but with Koepka already comfortably reaching -4 things are looking quite ominous already. I'm not sure Shane has 4 good rounds in him this week, and I think he'd need it.
