    Hi
I am looking for a new pair of runners that are wider than the normal 'off the shelf' type of running.

Starting to do a bit of road running with trail run's added to the mix.

any suggestions either on brand or actual brand and model of runner?

Brooks do the Adrenaline and Ghost in wide and extra wide widths. Depends whether you're looking for support or neutral shoes!

Guessing support relates to the arch in the runner and neutral is just flat?

I underpronate (supinate), have wide feet and a normal arch. I tend to look for shoes that have a roomier toe box as just sizing up doesn't always cut it.

I've used New Balance 880 series for a few years as they do a wide size '2E'. Finding lighter 'faster' shoes is a challenge. My initial attempt with Nike resulted in black toenails

Have you done the arch type test? Step your wet foot gently onto brown paper etc? If your feet are wide and you have flat arches you are looking for more cushoning

Do you pronate/over pronate? If so you will need stability too. Do you heel strike? How wide I'd wide? What shoes have you run in before and how did they feel?

It would be worth going down to see a shoe specialist to determine your requirements as it's a minefield out there. At least then you can filter your options

    Thanks for the info
I would be more over pronate - heel rolling inwards.
I have other crossfit shoes that have the wider toe box which I enjoy but the sole is too solid for running (lower back flares up)

I have ordered a pair of Asics Mens GEL-Sonoma 4 Trail Running Shoes Steel Blue/Peacoat – I’ve a feeling they will be too ‘bulky’ but happy to return if that is the case

Previously I have done very little running so no previous record of shoes.
At the moment when running, in my crossfit shoes, my lower back and ankles flare up so hoping something with more cushion and support might help alleviate those symptoms

I think you are right in that going to a shoe specialist would be worth a visit

Second brooks for wide foot (and high arch).
Ive gone from Ghost to Glycerin and potentially getting a fresh pair again soon

New Balance do a whole range of wide fit runners. Have never seen anyone else specifically list their shoes as wide fit.

That's great - just had a look at the NB website and they have a good selection for both runners and trail runners in the wider variety.
I'll be signing up for some of the adventure races this year so think a decent pair of trail runners (rather than less grippy runners) will do the job nicely.

anything that helps keep the lower back pain free will get a massive thumbs up
