Yep it could, next time your driving throw your rifle out on the street and let a complete stranger bring it back to you. You will find yourself in front of a judge very bloody fast. But this incident is ok because they are highly trained professionals.
And the feckin greens are getting seats, what the hell is happening.

In the same vein, over here in Eastern UK a few years ago, we arrived on our outdoor range just as the local SWAT/counter terrorist team left after a session on the 25m range. It has electric turning targets, and is very useful for them for pistol shooting.

Aaaaaaand talking about pistols, on the end of the end-to-end shooting bench there was a large but tatty cardboard box, containing nine SIG P226 pistols and a pile of magazines and ammunition.

Hmmmmmmmmm.

Staying well away, and DEFINITELY NOT touching anything, we called up the county police HQ to find out which of the tri-county teams it had been, and having found out, advised them that they may just have left something behind in their rush to collect the pizza...

Less than ten minutes later, and driving in after the style of the Keystone Cops, the SWAT drove into the car park and came to a halt in a shower of gravel. One of the team leapt out, ran past us to the box and picking it up, ran like a scalded cat back to the van, which left in another shower of gravel.

Nothing was EVER said about that incident.

But a year or so later the van drove off with the box of shiny new Glocks still on the roof, dumping them in the ditch by the entrance as the van turned onto the road, as we just watched open-mouthed and never said a word. They reversed back to the dumped and very muddy pistols, picked them up and drove off.

Nothing was ever said about THAT either.

The thing is we wouldn't do something that utterly stupid because all your guns would be gone before you had chance to bend to pick it up. And that incident would be forever used to prove we were a danger to the public.
Oh to be a civil servant and have absolutely no accountability for your actions.
