Just spotted this on AICN,looks like we're gona get a new Matrix movie plus some other interesting stuff from the Wachowski Brothers.

Long time reader, occasional news feeder. Writing from rainy old London, England. Surprised that no one has commented on this, lucky me I guess. Was lucky enough to attend a key note speech at the London school of performing Arts university and was honoured to be in the same room as Keanu Reeves who was the guest of honour. Keanu was here promoting his new movie Henry's Crime which is opening shortly.

keanu as always was his kind gentle self and spoke to the class for a good 45 mins about his big break in acting and his love for Shakespeare. the floor was then opened for Q&A and the following was note worthy;

- Says he's prepping a action movie around the world of the samurai and that it will be a hard "R" rated 3D action feast that will deliver some great martial art set pieces. he's into 2 months of a 6 month training programme.

- Spoke briefly about the possibility of Bill and Ted part 3 - ( Audience started laughing) but he assured us he's committed to the project.

this is where the fun begins. Some great info shared with us good people.....

- Says he met the Wachowski's (no emphasis on the word brothers), for lunch over Christmas and stated that they had completed work on a two picture script treatment that would see him return to the world of the matrix as Neo. Says the brothers have met with Jim Cameron to discuss the pro's and con's of 3D and are looking to deliver something which has never been seen again. keanu stated that he still has an obligation to the fans to deliver a movie worthy of the title "The Matrix" and he swears this time that the treatment will truly revolutionise the action genre like the first movie. Wachowski's are working on a movie called "Cloud Atlas" at the moment, once that concludes they will talk again.

- Keanu spoke about the need to encourage writers to continue to focus on working on new ideas and that a good script was worth its weight in gold. For example he said the Wachowski's had just sold the most expensive script in history to Warner Brothers. a modern futuristic take on the legend of "Robin Hood". Says he understands WB paid $5 million for the rights and that from what the wachowski's have told him, it will be an action movie that would have the same impact visually and technically that Terminator 2 had. Confirmed that Will Smith has agreed ti headline the picture.

that was pretty much it guys, have to give kudos to Mr Reeves. A true gentleman and an esquire.

can't wait for the above to come to fruition. If you use this please refer to me as "El-Nino".

There was a 2nd and 3rd Matrix movie?

I'm kind of hopeful for 47 Ronin which is the samurai movie... or at least I was until I saw it's written by a guy who wrote 2 of the Fast & Furious movies...

Ninja Assassin was a great film, but i'm not sure about this huge technical leap forward akin to The Matrix or T2, what haven't we seen?...what tech exists that has not been commited to film?

Are you sure he actually wrote them though? It's possible that he wiped his ass and some one confused the toilet paper for an actual script.

On topic, the matrix alone was brilliant, the sequels weren't great and this will probably be awful.

He's kind of losing me with the 3d talk, to be honest. I was hoping that fad would have died out by now.

It kind of is - in America they are seeing a drop in 3D vs 2D numbers for the same movies.

However, I don't see it disappearing any time soon.

1. Harder to pirate.
2. Slightly more expensive ticket prices so a better deal for the distributor.

You get good and bad 2d movies, and you will get good and bad 3d movies.

IMO, as long as the movie is conceived with 3D in mind, and the use of 3D has a point to the visual imagery and is not simply a tacked on gimmick - it has a place in cinema.

I have seen a number of movies that have used 3D really well, I have also seen movies that use it exactly as I don't want it to be seen.

The Matrix is actually a movie I think it could be really good in. The bullet time scenes could look very good in 3d, with added depth to the image as the camera pans. Scenes such as the slow-mo bullet shooting would look good in it too. Thinking back to specific scenes in the trilogy - the scene they hyped up more than any other - the Neo super speed flight through the city to catch Trinity - would look excellent in 3D.

Again though, it all comes down to the use of the technology. As long as the scene will make sense when seen in 2D, i think it will be fine.

The bigger issue is whether the movie itself will be any good in terms of story and dialog, rather than 2d/3d visuals. imo.

The Matrix could've worked quite well had it been made for 3D considering it's action pieces.

Reloaded was forgiveable but Revolutions was as about as good as a runny shíte running down your leg.

Matrix 4...........meh. It would want to be amaaaaaaaaaaazing to lure us back.

I wouldn't know if it was good or bad till i went to see it, and I would certainly go to see it.

No doubt it would probably be a visual feast. Hopefully, it wouldn't be let down by a bloated script.

In the Matrix sequels when people started chatting about other neos before him I thought that'd be a clever way to do a few prequels; to do an entire iteration of a neo in a film; and do that with a couple of different actors. Just a thought.

Heard this on C-nets BOL show as well.

How could a 4th and 5th movie work when the story was all wrapped up in the 3rd film?

Matrix fans may be aware that Stahelski previously worked with the Wachowskis as a stunt double for Keanu Reeves in the original Matrix trilogy.

Rumours of a new Matrix film have been doing the rounds for many years. This is pretty much the firmest indication that it really is going to happen.

No interest in revisiting the matrix now, the story was told and wrapped up and it doesn’t need another entry. John Wick is what it’s all about now

Rather than make another matrix movie, I think they should try to unmake one of the two sequels.

Man, I was so confused at first by that OP, quoting AICN as a source; kinda shows how things change in 8 years (though I dunno, maybe it is still a popular source of scoops, but feels like its lustre is long gone).

As to a Matrix 4? Sounds to me like the Wachowski sisters are really stuck for work / ideas if they're thinking of returning to THAT well. They've had a pretty poor run of films, and with the anniversary I guess it come them thinking of more successful times...

Mmm I’m conflicted in which you might be suggesting - loved the courtyard fight, the story and most of Reloaded, liked the story tie ups and action in some of Revolutions but defo the weakest of the 3.

I think Reloaded gets an unfair amount of slack. The Matrix is obviously far superior but it is a solid film and while the architect scene is the beginning of the end up to that point it's am excellent film.

Revolutions really was ****e and I remember saying at the time filming back to back sequels would just never work because of it (how wrong I was there)

I would be all over a 4th especially if they continued the Neo story. John Wick shows Reaves is still well able for an action scene. I think Revolutions really took some of the shine off of the Matrix so if they could correct that any but I'd be all for it

Oddly, John Wick and the matrix share a similar problem, in that they lost that pizzazz the moment they started trying to expand and explore the mythology.

The Matrix was lean, self contained beast, whose sequels got progressively lost in the weeds of waffle and world building. The plot literally grinding to a halt, so characters could talk about the needlessly convoluted universe.

The John Wick sequel did the same IMO: the original film was so simple and lean you could describe it in a sentence; then the sequel insisted on expanding this 'assassinverse' to the point the film became a bit boring and baggy. I hope number 3 doesn't do the same,but sounds like we're still knee deep in the same blather.

Stahelski has already clarified that this isn’t happening and the rumour came from him being quoted out of context.

Thought the exact same, of course the description of brothers rather than sisters should have been a give away to me.

Didn't realise AICN was still around. It still looks the exactly as I remember it too. It was pretty good in its heyday. Film news sites are so terrible now.

Really? I think film news on the Web is light years ahead of the days of AICN? Although maybe traditional websites play less of a role.

Yeah, same; there's plenty of garbage out there but film discussion and news feels pretty robust and mature - with some great creators on YouTube et al; AICN was never that far from hyperventilating puffery at the best of times, and some of its reviews rivalled, if not surpassed, the kind of rabid fandom you get these days. They were certainly not above bribery either
