Ringing bus eireann is pointless to find out. The bus from oranmore to Eyre Square starts at oranmore town centre and goes up through oranmore village, but the return journey doesn't seem to cover the same bus stops from what I see, it stops at town centre. Kind of annoying when most of the housing estates are up the far end of oranmore village so it's a bit of a walk home

Lots of Locals are objecting to the Bus going up to Oran Hill. I think they are idiots. A load of families with kids who down the line will need that bus for work or college. Even for them to come home from socialising in town.

Some time around Christmas, I heard that "some guy" (singular) complained about the bus turning in front of his house. Those complains were then refused so the project had a go.
Next thing I heard was about three weeks ago, when I asked a BE driver about it. He told me that it was in the pipeline with National Transport Authority, and that the only thing left was to figured out where to turn the bus, from the safety perspective. He also told me that a plan for 404 was not only to extend it to Oranhill, but also to Bushypark on the other side.

I'm not surprised there is more resistance than enthusiasm with local residents, as majority of households own more than one car. I guess they are not particularly interested in using public transportation.

I don't see how this could lower property value, unless the bus stop is just in front of the house door, and I doubt BE would do that.

Also, adding a few stops between the village center and Oranhill could help people from other estates on the way, as well.

Where to in Bushypark?

He didn't specify, and I didn't ask. I was more interested to find out about the Oranhill story, as there hadn't been a word about it since that article in Connacht Tribune.


I'm not sure if one service should cover such a long route, considering all the traffic issues and congestion in Galway. Maybe it would be better if they break it in two, even if they overlap at some point, i.e. they don't terminate at Eyre Square.

And where would it turn in Bushypark?

It cuts loading time because some people don't have to change buses, and just having more vehicles on the route overall means theres less of a gap if one fails to run.

Makes sense. Anyway, if it is going to work, I don't mind. Whatever is more efficient.

I'm starting to feel that people like to abuse those "safety concerns" whenever they want to protect some selfish and extravagant interest. I don't understand why Garda supported their view and forced City Direct to reduce number of buses ???
I mean, what is safer: a bus with professional driver behind the wheel, or huge number of cars where good number of people still fancy texting while driving ?
Or I misunderstood and City Direct just wanted to avoid hassle of being reported every now and then ?
I guess, if we continue like this, we will end up off topic into same old story about solving Galway traffic issues.

Oh, so I misunderstood. Those busses were actually parked on the road. I thought they were complaining about too many busses passing that way. Ok, that is an issue.

If only Galway City Council did actual planning. This kind of stuff (bus laybys with shelters) should have been built(or at least provision made for it) before any houses were built. WDR is another absolute mess.

The 404 starts opposite Peter Murphy's and there was supposed to be shelter and a parking bay for the bus, if you look at where it stops you can see the area they intended to park the bus in its now just a very wide footpath forceing the bus to park on yellow lines, It's daft what's going on in the City there are way too many stops with no shelters.
