Its a pity that Munster are unlikely to get the home-quarter final. It all goes back to the Castres game where Barnes chose to ignore so many dangerous incidents. Big loss for the local economy.

Two red cards missed in that match, a red card missed in the match a week later vs Ulster. Eventually Leinster did us a favour and made sure the ref couldn't miss that red card.

But no, its Munsters own fault if/when they don't get a home quarter final

Had a chance to beat Exeter away, didnt take it
Didn't a BP in the home game vs Castres
Had a chance to beat Castres away, didnt take it.

That chance would have been increased a fair bit if the correct calls had been made on the day, to be fair. Bans are all the one after the game but red cards would have huge impact on match.

Looks like an Exeter BP win and a straight shootout next week in Thomond for top of the group

A bit nervy as I think we will be caught out on this 'Thomond miracle/fear factor' thing.

Exeter should have the tbp soon enough so they'll be coming next week on 13pts, needing 5pts and denying us from getting any point from the game. A big ask but they'll come with intent.

Commentators on Chiefs game repeatedly saying they'll only need 4 points next weekend?

That’s par for the course with BT. Awful coverage of rugby

Commentators are correct. Exeter need a 4-0 or 5-1 result to top the group.

They need to beat Munster by 4 match points to top the group on head to head. A 1-4 game leaves Munster a point ahead.

They're not correct as they're saying any win. A 1-4 would leave Munster top.

Going to be one hell of a battle next week. Exeter are a quality side. Plenty of quality forwards and have good line breakers in the backs.

POM could be a crucial loss as the line out maul is Exeter’s biggest attacking weapon.

The loss in castres could be a disaster.

I'm only half listening but I thought they just said they wouldn't need a bonus point win anymore. But "they only need 4 points" is a completely accurate, if incomplete, statement. Not needing a BP win is a big deal, even if they need to still win by more than 7.

I don't really think they'll do either anyway.

Win and BP for Exeter- sets it up nicely for next week!

Be interesting to see whether POM is patched up to play or whether Schmidt pulls rank and rules him out like he did with Sexton.POM is as important to Ireland as Sexton is IMHO

    We're on 17, they're 13.
Munster can lose next week and still top the pool. Our pts diff is +42, so even if Exe come over and kick 13 penalties, winning 39-0, we still go through.
The odds are definitely in Mun favour but Exe have an opportunity.

    I think it's 0-5, 1-5, 0-4 will see Exeter top. 5-0, 5-1, 4-0, 4-1 , 1-4 or a draw will see Munster top.

If they get 4 tries they get a bonus point. Hardly likely but possible.

    Munster cant.
If two club in the same pool are equal on match points at the end of the pool stage, their ranking will be determined by the results of the two matches played between the relevant club as follows:
    (i) the club with the greater number of match points from the two matches; or
(ii) if equal, the club with the best aggregate points difference from the two matches; or
(iii) if equal, the club that scored the most tries in the two matches

So if Exeter win 39-0 and its tied 17 points each Exeter qualify top

1-5 or 0-4 can still see Mun top the pool. Our pd is +42.

When was this bs brought in? PD counts for nothing so?

Check post above. For teams level on match points in same pool it's decided on head to head on match points first. Draw going into this game.

This has been in place for quite some time. Points difference doesnt count for nothing. Depends on circumstances at top of pool

Points difference counts for seeding between two teams not in each other's group.

A draw today would've suited us best but Exe winning is a better outcome imo. Glous coach said on fri. night that he intends on rotating the squad for the Castres game; the guys that have been "waiting patiently" are getting gametime next week. That's 5 for Castres even before todays result.

Exeter winning is a much worse outcome. Castres would have had to rely on a knocked out Exeter winning in Thomond.

of course, but my point would be that we left points behind us off the tee.

Yes he got the red cards wrong but we still had the chances to win
