Is there any news on Chris Farrell's knee injury or results from his scan earlier in the week.

Hopefully it's not that serious and he is back soon. A massive loss to Munster

Nothing official. Lots of guesswork though.

Very pleased with that, pretty much our strongest starting 15.

    EDIT: Cipriani starts for Gloucester.

    Gloucester Rugby:

    15. Tom Hudson; 14. Charlie Sharples, 13. Billy Twelvetrees, 12. Mark Atkinson, 11. Ollie Thorley; 10. Danny Cipriani, 9. Callum Braley; 1. Josh Hohneck, 2. Henry Walker, 3. Fraser Balmain; 4. Ed Slater, 5. Gerbrandt Grobler; 6. Franco Mostert, 7. Lewis Ludlow, 8. Ben Morgan (captain)

    Replacements:

    16. Franco Marais, 17. Alex Seville, 18. Ciaran Knight, 19. Freddie Clarke, 20. Gareth Evans, 21. Ben Vellacott, 22. Owen Williams, 23. Henry Trinder

That's a pretty strong physical team named by Munster. This game is massive.

    Milestone for Billy H.

A bit concerned that Marshall may be 'cold' when he's called upon; hasn't played since October but good to see him back.
I'd prefer to see another winger on the bench. We've loads who can easily slot in to 12/15 but no real cover for either wing.

Thought Billy hit the milestone last week? Some player and servant for us

That was my gut reaction also.
I wonder if Farrell is not 100% and they plan to bring on Goggin around 50 - 60 mins.
Otherwise, an injury to either wing and they might have to move Scannell to the wing and bring on Bleyendaal at 12.
Or perhaps move Haley to wing, and bring on Bleyendaal at 10 and switch Carbery to fullback.

Nah, Holland to back row and POM to his more natural wing position...a rich vein of tryscoring form must be exploited

    :D

I'm struggling to see an upside of Holland ahead of Whycherly at this point, JVG seems conservative when it comes to the younger players in comparison to Cullen.

Yeah i'd imagine it's a case of playing it safe with Farrell. the other option would have meant having Earls cover centre i suppose. I imagine Haley can do a job on the wing.

    Lineout calling?

Ehh... vast experience in these sort of games/proven lineout operator/workhorse versus talented youngster with very promising showing against Leinster recently but before that a general tendency to lose the head a bit/get carded?

Wycherley's time will come, I'd envisage him passing Billy next season and he'll get gametime during the rest of this season... but I'm not sure this is the game to be parachuting him in for.

There's plenty experience in that 23, POM Murray Stander Earls Scannell Ryan Kilcoyne.
Beirne and POM call the lineout so he's not needed for that.
Is the general tendancy the 1 red card he received?

Beirne calls the munster lineout and POM second in line.

There is a 21 year old nailed on grand slam & Aus tour winning second row starter for Ireland, if they're good enough they're old enough. We quite clearly know BH is a brilliant servant, Munster stalwart etc. but he's always been & always will be abjectly run of the mill in Heineken cup terms. As said above, there'd be plenty of experience in the team around Wych.

Ryan's a freak though. Can't really put Wych in the same boat when the former is being touted as one of the best players in the world already and destined for greatness. There's being good enough to be old enough and then there's that.

I think BH for this weekend is a sensible call. Has plenty of experience in going to grounds with boisterous crowds and needing a result. Hopefully a calming presence if control is the name of the game towards the end of the match. Would like to see Wych for next weekend though when (hopefully) there will be a little less pressure and has home support.

    🤪

A red, resulting in a 3 week ban and two yellows in 15 caps (only 4 of which were starts) I think? I think that's enough to warrant a bit of look at the rashness of youth coming to the fore when assessing whether to include him in a crunch away fixture.

I'd be happy with either on the bench truth be told... but Billy getting the nod for the away fixture is the correct call for me and I don't think it's that big a deal that JvG has gone for it.

I'm not saying Wycherley & Ryan are in the same category, all I'm saying is why wait for next season for Wych to overtake Holland, he's in better form now. Holland will always have more experience, so why would the argument used above not be used then also? The return on investment for Wych playing away in that environment would be much higher than with Holland

Is Farrell ready for such big contests? 80 mins? Consecutive weekends? After such a long injury lay off and a few recent scares?

Should Farrell be eased back in?

Not necessarily next season, but I can see the merit in it not being this week. Had a cracking game against Leinster and brought the fire from the off - but the last 20 of this game are more likely to require steady heads. Hoping for big things from him, and hoping that he gets time this season.

I'm sure he's learnt a valuable lesson from that red, the yellows were a result of repeated infringements so that isn't an issue with the individual player.
He came on against castres away so JVG must not have thought it was a problem then.

He came on in the 76th minute, and it was Holland who played the previous 75.

Every coach in the world would have picked Holland here.

A new born king to see POM POM POM POM POM
For those of you in Limerick tomorrow afternoon, Munster A play Leinster A at Thomond Park at 2pm. Admission is free and it's also being streamed on youtube.

    Munster:
    Alex Wootton; Calvin Nash, Matt More, Alex McHenry, Ronan O’Mahony; Bill Johnston, Neil Cronin;
Liam O’Connor, Kevin O’Byrne (C), Ciaran Parker; Sean O’Connor, Darren O’Shea; David Hyland, Conor Oliver, Gavin Coombes.

Replacements: Mike Sherry, Shane O’Hanlon, Keynan Knox, Eoin O’Connor, John Hodnett, Jack Stafford, Ian Keatley, Liam Coombes

That team would look solid in the Pro14!
