Following the philosopy of better late than never... copied from last year's thread:

PLEASE give some info on the race/your training/how you felt/next target etc when posting your times, so we don't end up with a boring thread of tables.

    The times are:
    400m - 1 minute
    800m- 150 seconds
    1 mile - 5 mins
    3k - 10 mins
    5k - 20 mins
    5miles - 30 mins
    10k - 40 mins
    10miles - 1 hour
    Half Marathon - 90 mins
    Marathon - 3 hours

    Name|400m<60 secs|800m<150 seconds|1 mile<5 min|3k<10min|5k<20min|5mile<30min|10k<40m|10miles<1hr|Half Marathon<90mins|Marathon<3hrs
    28064212||2:17.99||9:51.46|16:43.98|28:21|35:24|||

Everything from 5k down was done at the Dublin Gradeds. Took me three attempts to get below 10 for 3k, including a 10:00.94  Hopefully get the mile in Graded Meet 8 in Santry, although will also attempt the 400m beforehand, so we'll see how that goes. The 400 is a bit of an "aspirational" attempt. Marathon/Half should be easily got in Dublin, and will probably do a ten mile somewhere (not in Ballycotton though :()

No more takers? It’s great to see the “Best of 2018” taking off but this thread has always been the one to aspire to!

Hope to be on it myself soon, but in the meantime, who else has hit these landmark times this year?

5k was a bit of a flop at my first ever 5k race in The Arthur's Way 5k a couple of weeks ago, 5Mile was in the Irish Runner 5 Miler, Half Marathon was in a time trial believe it or not in the lead up to Rotterdam marathon and Marathon was in Limerick on the May Bank Holiday weekend. More info on all of the above in my log 'Its all in the try'. Hope to improve on all of these times and maybe crack 60mins for 10miles in the build up to DCM. :) Oh yeah,I also plan on doing one of those paced miles in the Phoenix Park and hopefully going under 5mins in that.

Tragically, all the times are too far out of reach for me now that the "'women's / ladies / title under discussion' round numbers" thread was banished. I used to find that one aspirational, but this one is too far beyond me (apart from hopefully the 5k).

(I know the rationale was that 'any average club runner' as I think the description was :) should be able to hit these round numbers, and I know many, many women have - but I don't think I'll be running a sub 40 10k or a sub 60 10 mile any time soon!! :))

ETA: I've made a women's thread (& accidentally left out an 's' in the title if a mod would like to fix it :)) - come join me on it, fellow women!

Can’t use that half time, wasn’t in an official race, you’ll just have to run a race half!!!

5k was a weak effort and something I hope to run a minute quicker or so in coming weeks. The 10k was ran on one of the coldest days I ever remember running a race in & was solo from start to finish. My half was first time breaking 90mins in the CPC Loop Den Haag in March, there was another 30secs there at least if it wasn’t for cramp in the last 3k and having to stop and slow down. Only other distance on the table I will run this year is the marathon where the sub 3 could just be out of reach, time will tell.

Nice one(s), B, but did you have to break the table? ;)

FYI, a 400m has been added to the programme for Dublin Graded Meet 7 in Tallaght, if anyone else is having a crack at the least-attempted target (possibly tied with the mile)

This thread seems to be falling out of use but it's very rare for me to be able to post a qualifying time so here it is! From this year's National Masters at Tullamore.

Resurrecting what is almost a zombie thread but being able to post here has been an aspiration and I doubt I'll have a qualifying time again in a hurry. Managed to go sub 20' for the first time ever at this year's Jingle Bells, taking advantage of the fast course and the really competitive field to lower my previous PB by over a minute. Tough tough race but really pleased, and slightly surprised, by the outcome. Sub 19 next year? ;)

Completed the top half of the table* since my last update. Only did a single mile race on a very windy day, 5:05. There's definitely a sub-5 there for the taking, hard to get a race that suits though. 400m still a bit out of reach, didn't break 63 this year. Not doing a Spring marathon next year though, so maybe I'll have more time to prepare for track season

    * Sort of. I didn't do a 10 mile race, but given that my average pace for the marathon was faster than 10mile/hr, I feel ok about claiming it^ :) (with an asterisk)

^For the purposes of this thread only ;)

Improved both my Half and Marathon entries on the table. Gave 60mins a bit of a scare in the Frank Duffy, next year hopefully I'll chalk that milestone off. Had hoped to run a mile at some stage but it never happened......I've ran a 5:14 mile the last rep if a 6x1 Mile session so I'd like to think that <5 mins would be a possibility.

The elusive 60 minutes for 10 miles still not done but getting closer. Didn't do any 10km races this year. 5km was a parkrun after the marathon, only time I ran that distance this year.

    Careful with that.

Saw a lad refused from a HM (sub 1.15 qualifying time needed) because he had never run one. He had however attached his 2.25 marathon result from 2 days previously, response was. "Thats great but go out and run a half in the next two weeks"

2014 was the last time I had a go at this but I'd missed every track season since through injury, until this year. This year, it was just about navigating the summer safely and injury-free without any real expectation of running very fast times but I'll definitely have more of a go at doing more of these distances next year. I'd love to have another go at the 400 at some point!

I did mostly 1500m training this summer to stay on the safe side of injury but I still managed 4 800s, along with 4 15s and single attempts at the mile & 3000m.

I ran between 4:14 or 4:15 for 1500m 3 times, and had run 4:49 for the long mile at the Road Relays in April, so was expecting to be closer to 4:35 for the mile after a summer of racing and was very disappointed to be so far off.

Hopefully I'll have a proper go at my pbs from 800m-5k next year, and maybe even have a pop at some longer distances.

I knew I'd get called out on that! I've edited my post with a proviso just for you :P Your story did make me realise I could knock another 5 seconds off my half time: I ran the first half of DCM faster than I ran the Race Series half! Combination of no taper and poor raceday for the half, and a slightly too fast first half of DCM. You do get an official split time, so I feel I'm on slightly firmer ground here

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with an official PB in shorter race - according to IAAF rules. If that’s what this discussion is about?

Didn't race longer than 5M this year  as the focus was on 3k - 5k, ran 5:02.0 for the mile Christmas week, will target that one also next year.
