4k monitor recommendations

Hello lads,my son is looking for a 4k monitor for christmas to replace his 1080 asus..im way behind on 4k monitors and am looking to spend max 350 euros,so if you can recommend me something it would be great! cheers

Does he have a computer that can actually drive 4K games?
Which games is he looking to play?

Most guides I've seen recommend Acer KA270HK or Dell P2415Q - they're around the €365 mark though.

If buying purely by price, look up monitors by feature set (IPS or VA with a 10bit panel).

I wouldn't bother with the Dell, 24" is too small for 4k. Yea the image will look lovely because of the crazy pixel density but you'll have to scale everything up (probably to 200%) to make it even semi-usable.

I think the sweet spot is 27" to 32".

If he doesn't have a PC that's capable of gaming at 4k, and he has no real need for the extra screen space the higher resolution will give him (e.g. he doesn't use photoshop or lightroom or video editors) then IMO you'd be better off buying him a nice 27" 1440p screen instead.

There's also this 1. About as cheap as you will get those specs for. Curved 2560x1440/144hz with a good VA panel as well. VA gives the best picture quality imo. and this 1 solves the ghosting problem. The 1 above is probably still better for gaming though.

I'm currently looking at 32" 1440p monitors to replace my faulty 4k Acer Predator XB321HK(I mostly ran it at 2k res in games anyway, not much difference), I'm waiting for some in-depth reviews on these two monitors...

For a 32" monitor you'd want to have a seriously big desk, otherwise you'll be literally scanning the screen which makes gameplay difficult... unless you're sitting back from the screen with a gamepad.

I have a pretty big office desk and I had a 32" for a time, but it was a huge mistake as competitive online gaming was impossible given short distance from the screen. It'd be the equivalent of something like playing Xbox sitting three feet from your 48" TV.

I found 27" is definitely the sweet spot for the majority of setups, and I'd agree that 1440/144hz is far more preferable than 4K. Getting a 32" monitor was my biggest mistake, but upgrading to 4K was probably my biggest disappointment....

The iiyama linked above by Bloodbath seems a good shout, good balance at a good price.
