Carbery "has already played over double the amount of minutes at out-half than he managed in the whole of last season with Leinster."

Little tidbit from @CianTracey1 this morning.

To be fair, Carbery broke his wrist playing for Ireland and missed 7 weeks of games for Leinster. Came back in January but only for a few weeks before missing another two months with Leinster due to the Six Nations.

of course he was going to get more game time at Munster, why else would have have moved?

I'm not saying he didn't move due to lack of time at 10. Just that the above stat is skewed a bit due to his injury problems last season.

true, Lancaster addressed that recently in a press conference.

Which is great and why he moved to Munster. Carberry had to move too get more time at 10, simple as that. Also Leinster seen him as a 15 and not a 10. Great news for Ireland and for Joey himself

My point is he should not have been allowed to move to Munster till they cleaned up their own house.

When was the last time Munster gave a young 10 a chance? JJ was coming through and he moved to get gametime.

Every other province has brought a 10 via the System. Ulster had Jackson and they had to bring in a player but they have a young player coming up.....Connacht have Carty, Leinster have Sexton and Byrne and Reid etc

How is Bill Johnston supposed to develop when he will never get a Pro14 match because they have a back log of 10's.

Johnny Holland is the answer to this. He started the Munster Leinster fixture in the Aviva a couple of seasons ago from what I remember. It's unfortunate he had to retire from injury so young.

People often seem to forget about him when discussing the 10 situation at Munster. The likelihood is if he had kept progressing and didn't have to retire, Carberry wouldn't have moved to Munster.

JJ is a conundrum in that he seemed to have good appearances and won the 2013-14 Golden Boot award, but couldn't make the jersey his own for whatever reason. 64 appearances between 2012 and 2015, according to Wikipedia, and another 23 since his return. Has definitely struggled to hit the heights he was at before he left.

Jonathan Holland looked like a promising player. Made first start in 2014, only 11 appearances, but looked very comfortable in the Leinster game in 2016. And then forced into retirement through injury.

Hoping to see more of Johnston this season.

TBH, I think JJ Hanrahan has hit exactly the heights he was at before he left.

He played a good number of games in his last season, but he never came close to displacing Keatley as first-choice and (correct me if I'm wrong) was playing mostly at centre and full-back by the time he left. His goal-kicking was excellent and that put a bit of a sheen on it.

Obviously at that time he was still very young but he never looked like being a top-class 10.

If Bleyendaal recovers and Carbery works out, JJ would be well advised to ask JVG to consider him purely as a 12 or 15.

Holland only got a reach chance at the Munster 10 when he was 24.

Munster do a poor job at developing homegrown talent, especially at 10.

Holland was injured for a year and a half prior to getting his shot, the same injury that forced him to retire, so using him as an example of poor development is nonsense tbh.

Munster have been very unlucky. Had things worked out better we could have Holland and Bleyendaal competing for the starting job with Bill Johnston developing behind them. It's worth mentioning that Johnston has also suffered serious injuries.

Darren Sweetnam, the Scannells, Jack O'Donoghue recently. The likes of Zebo, Earls, O'Mahony and Murray in the recent past. Yes we don't produce as many as Leinster, but then again nobody does. It a numbers game really. We don't have the player numbers or the school system that Leinster have to feed their academy.

A little bit of cringe at the start ("Now that's Joey"), but a nice video. Leamy welcomes Carbery to Munster.

A mate of mine from college told me a story once of how he came home after a night out, absolutely smashed out of his tree drunk and decided to have a bit of private hand time before bed. He woke up to screaming the next morning when his mam and sister walked into the living room and there he was fast asleep on the sofa with lad still in hand having dozed off mid performance. He even had his tshirt still pulled half way up his chest.

That was the cringiest thing I'd ever heard until I watched that pinergy video.

Not sure on goggin and Arnold starting together both hard running centres but lack creativity, would have preferred to have seen Scannell or jj at 12.
Cronin is definitely better starting and bringing kilkoyne off the bench with 20 to go he's made for that.
Surprised to see POM start again, why wasn't he taken off early last week when the game was wrapped up?

I know what you mean but we finished the game with 14 men last week, POM was subbed off when we had no replacements left.

What I found baffling was that POM went down for treatment twice in the second half (when replacements were available) and they continued on with him. Munster were about 40 points up at that point. I was completely flummoxed.

TOD was taken off before that, I thought it should have been POM or even stander.

How is Bill Johnston playing this year? It’s great to see him get a run of games together in the Celtic cup. A good prospect, who’s had a tough time with injuries.

Doesn't matter how he is playing, will never see first team with the current back logs of 10's, if I was him I would walk out the door to Ulster/Connaght or head to France/England. Better chance of progressing your career

I think it just might matter if he's playing well and the backlog of 10s are either injured or not worth a shiiite.

JJ and Keatley are extremely average. If they can get gametime at 10 for Munster there's no reason that Johnston can't either if he's talented as we think he could be. On top of that Bleyendaal has a very poor injury record.

He'd still be on bench in Ulster of Connacht but guess be would have better chance of game time off bench
