why cant the roscommon mens senior team tackle? great forward line but they may as well have no defence. teams regularly stroll straight through their defence without 1 tackle being put in. it has been the same the last 10 years.

Why not ask this in the actual Roscommon thread?

    That's the problem.
Really they should ask this in the Dublin thread.

McStay had no difficulty tackling the linesman.

Can they continue to not tackle in Croker on the 5th, the Dublin forwards need a confidence boost so ya know.....

Physically they're nowhere near the level of the other 3 teams.

A lot harder to tackle a man when he's stronger and more durable than you are.

what about just trying to knock the ball out of the oppositions hands? or getting in front of the opposition to block shots? you don't need to be stronger than the opposition to do that.

I made some comments about Roscommon a couple of years ago and last year too.
I was hit with a TLDR from RedSoxFan

He summarised my post as follows
    "Roscommon are fat" !!! Ã႒¯Â¿Â¼

So imo they seem to have good footballers. However their lads all look a bit softer, good enough for the league but they don't look to have that same lean cut to them, you see this on their legs, sometimes they look closer to a team from 10-15 years ago in this regard

That conditioning that Donegal , Dublin and Mayo have all produced over the past 6 or 7 years has not hit them

As highlighted above this lack of strength directly impacts on the ability to tackle.

It's probably not that bad if a position to be in as may counties many have achieved more with lads with less football than they have.

We're still trying to play football like it's 1990.
There just doesn't isn't that culture of S&C in the county.

Of course, it doesn't help that the county are skint, have no training centre, no dedicated gym, have been bailed out by the GAA, have over half the panel working in Dublin and travelling down for training due to no jobs in the county...

Tackling is harder to do when standing or backing off. Last weekend Roscommon had 13 men back at times but it was more marking space than men. How many times did a Donegal get player get a free shot or pass at goals with no Roscommon player near them to apply some sort of pressure?
