The last of the traditional knock out championships and every year throws up some great games. Kicks off today with limerick v Clare at 5.45 and live on tg4

Limerick were far superior to Clare everywhere. Should have had two or three goals before the sending off. Clare seem to be going backwards fast at underage

More of a case of reverting to the norm than a big step backwards, they punched above there weight for a number of years with an exceptional bunch. Limerick looked far more physically developed than cLare, and that has to be a big concern for Clare, even their seniors are physically very small and struggle to win proimary possession.

Limerick play Tipp next on June 21st in Thurles. The bookies have Tipp overwhelming favorites to win that game and indeed to win Munster.
The general consensus is (from talking to Tipp people) that this team should win the A.I. this year. They have a good management team in place and have improved greatly from the squad that played minor 3 years ago.

You are using a differnet bookie to me. Tipp v Limerick will be very tight betting wise, home advantage for Tipp will have them slight favourites.

Cork are favourites for the AI so cant see how anyone would have Tipp as favourites for Munster.

I think Cahill probably sees this as a two year project and the real target will be 2019, anything this year will be a bonus.

Ya, Cork will be hard to beat with Fitzgibbon, Kingston,Coleman and Timmy Mahoney still on board this year. What may come as a disadvantage to them, and even more so Limerick, is the number of players heading off with their respective senior squads until June 17th. The semis come immediately after that, June 20/21st.
Will key players come back injury-free.? Timmy Mahoney is already a doubt for Cork seniors and the way Fitzgibbon plays the game may see him tiring after 4 tough games in 5 weeks. An injury to Kyle Hayes/Brian Ryan would seriously damage Limerick's chances.
The game played V Clare may stand to Limerick though, as they will have seen some things that they have to improve on.
Tipp folk I know do have great hope for this years team but I do feel that Limerick with a full side can push them all the way. They do have a serious goal-scoring threat. (very absent in the first half in Ennis I know but they did create the chances)
While Cork may feel they could've taken Limerick last year, it should be remembered that they were very lucky themselves to beat Waterford.
Is that Dalton guy still U21 this year.? outstanding V Waterford but very poor V Limerick.

Thats a very good point and it could play a big part. Paudie Feehan and at a real stretch Cian Darcy are the only two Tipp ladds that might see action and neither will be a starter so it could in a funny way owing to how hte fixtures fall work out in their favour.

The other side of the coin of course is if Limerick, as many expect, have a good senior campaign and qualify that will be a massive boost to them and more so than any other county it seems that when Limerick are going well it tends to feed into all their teams.

Great 2nd half from Galway although they won't be too happy with the 6 or 7 bad wides they hit around the time of their 2nd goal. They were completely on top at that stage and should have finished the game off. It kept Kilkenny in the game just about and they never gave up in fairness to them. Better side won in the end though.

Galway could even afford Jack Canning being very quiet. Not sure he was even fully fit seeing as he didn't start against Offaly last week. Had to come off at half-time.

Lost on the day, but remember a good number of the team were playing minor football that year too and Tipp got to the final. They did look a bit tired on the day, which is quite understandable.

Anyways, thats in the past now. So far Cork, Tipp and Galway looking the best teams. Gonna be interesting the new format this year, as in previous years the 2 best teams have managed to meet in the one province and only 1 could go through (has happened a lot in Munster the last few years). Some rematches would be interesting.

Quite an incredible Leinster hurling final last night,
there's been brilliant games at under 21 level over the past 8/10 years but I must admit this Wexford/Galway game topped the lot of them
the game had everything [apart from a referee] must surely rank as the most incompetent refereeing seen at a big important match [and that is really saying something from the GAA where officiating continues to reach a new low each week.]

It was one of the most blatant examples of bias I have ever seen by a referee and indeed his umpires against 1 team. The 5 and a half minutes of injury time at the end of normal time was really scandalous.

'injury time' becoming ridiculous at this stage.
7 minutes played in Newbridge Or Nowhere last Sat. evening for the Kildare/Mayo game.

just on this, Galway had 2 frees in injury time and took 60 seconds and 50 seconds on each free to take them. Added to this that Jack Canning went down in the final minute of normal time and the ref stopped play for 50 seconds which brought the game then into injury time. He also booked a Wexford player in injury time. Wexford got the goal 80 seconds after the initial injury time was called. Considering the time wasting done in injury time, playing over it wasnt that scandalous.

The keeper was warned numerous times not to step out of the box, but he kept doing so. He was still doing it later in the game too, going 2 or 3 yards out on puck outs, most notably at the other end though. If you are warned about it, stop doing it.

Thought there should have been more injury time than that even - Galway blatantly wasting time - which nearly bit them in the end. Great game though -some unreal scores throughout.

And so it turned out! Really like the new format of this championship, always having Galway and Antrim (usually) in the semi finals helped no one.

Was castigated one poster (ironically from Tipp) when I posted this many months back.;)
There is no such thing as a bad Tipp underage team.
They fought like dogs tonight and set the tone from the throw-in.
Fair play to them and well done.
Majority of Tipp posters on Boards.ie were very gracious when we won the senior last week.!!
