If i might Bump in here for a moment, and hopefully a touch of clarity. Been researching how to push out freeview sat > ip and include Saorview along with it.

To the best of my ability it seems the best option is to run a Pi3 with two usb dongles one for saorview one for Sat. and configure libre elec with tvheadend on top of it ?

Would i be correct in this assumption ?

Just to clear up some things, the SAT>IP box covers all the satellite needs (Freesat, not Freeview).

Two USB dongles are for the Saorview side of things (one per mux). The USB dongle part in the configuration we were talking about has nothing to do with satellite.

You can get USB Sat tuners (DVB-S/SVB-S2), but they are generally not "dongles" and require an external power supply. Also they are at least 40 quid each. This is what drove me to the SAT>IP solution in the first place. Its just easier and needs less wiring, power supplies etc.

Just so im clear, you still have two solutions then ? or perhaps you dont have a saorview solution, and only use the SAT >IP ..

I have two DVB input solutions (satellite & terrestrial) combined together as follows:

    - I have a SAT>IP box with 4 tuners (for Freesat/Astra 28.2) plugged into my LAN

    - I also have 2 * USB DVB-T dongles for Saorview

These two "Networks" are combined in tvheadend to give a combined EPG.

An update ...... the colour bleed issue with the Tanix Tx3 Mini seems to be resolved as well as the display issue only showing 'boot' when using LibreElec.

    I posted here about it:-

Hopefully that will help some get the best from this box.

This totally worked for me. Good spot. Using this as a daily runner now . HDMI-CEC not working fully on this box but that doesn't worry me.

Glad it worked for you also ;)

I am less sure of the later development releases ..... apparently Lirc will be required and a config file to use the remote that comes with the Tx3 unlike what I have installed now.

A further development seems to be that a universal dtb.img will be used, and a config file specific to different boxes.
That might work out well .... haven't tested yet.

More worrying is the difference of opinion about the requirements to comply with the GPL. If Tanix do not properly comply then I can see community support for the likes of the Tx3 diminishing or disappearing, leaving only the Tanix releases.
Hopefully it won't come to that.

For now anyway all seems to be good :)

Quick update here, Been following johnboy's updates over the last while, and finally got my hands on the SAT>IP box, along with my Tx3 ( still waiting on by usb tuners to arrive )

All pretty straight fwd to set up, only thing catching me out right now, is in tvheadend, Getting the damn Bouquets for FTA only channels. that and no doubt changing arround the channel numbers etc.

Cant say i'm crazy in love with Kodi as an interface, must perfer the mytvonline app on my Formuler Z boxes. but, untill there's an iptv in home equivelent i'll have to survive.

    Grats to all.

to get those bouquets to appear you MUST enable the Freesat EPG grabber module and trigger the grabber. Once a epggrab job i finished the bouquets show up

With regards to Kodi as a PVR interface I usually gravitate towards the mimic skin, which i find to nice and simple and easy on the eye. YMMV

Actually I noticed over the weekend that the HDMI-CEC is working .. i think it must have been disabled at the TV .. works fine now.

So this really cheap box does just about everything you would need as a tvheadend client...

Hmm, I've disabled the others, sky etc, and only selected the fresat grabber, still left with a lot of sky bouquets, i'll see ifi can force some cleanups and try and get it all organised in to some manor.

I got fed up with trying to make use of the default bouquets for lots of reasons, not least channel ordering and presence of channels I did not want etc etc., so I have taken the route to create my own bouquet files for the different groups of channels I need to have listed.

I am still in testing but this seems to be working out very well.

I have a thread on this here

    Two outstanding issues now.

    1. Picons are not working :( not sure why as of yet.
    2. 1080p channels freeze or dont display any video on my client machines ..

I intend on upgrading the version of kodi on the client machines later on to check if this helps as I dont get this issue on my laptop while running the Latest build.

    What are the 'client machines'?

Only time I had non-display of some channels was due to lack of licence on a R-Pi.

That is only for MPEG-2 streams IIRC.

Yep .... but without knowing what the client machines are how can one judge if they are even capable of displaying 1080 without problems?

Formula Z+ , altho I suss that if i enforce the matroska stream as the default it resolved the issue :)

Also manually set the picons on each channel :( it wasnt ideal, but it'll do for the sake of it.

Still waiting on my DVB-T devices to arrive

Minor follow up, DVB-T adapters arrived, all configured filtered out some channels. and tested.

    Initial findings, DVb-T works 100% , DVB-S SD works 100% DVB-S HD is a disaster.

    Logs show ..

    2018-04-18 15:55:48.156 [WARNING] TS: DVB-S Network/10847V/BBC One NI HD: DVBSUB @ #5303 Continuity counter error (total 215)

Stream shows SNR and signal strength both at 100% , all devices are hardwired, bar phones, and this laptop, the Tx3 is in the plant room.

I may attempt a full reflash, and retest.

Put the latest firmware on the digibit and see you get the same problems.

    Same issue i'm afraid :(

I'll run a few tests with the DVB-T adapters disconnected over the next few days, I seem to recall the DVB-S feeds working fine, or at least finer, before I connected the new adapters.

Could be some form of interference in the rack .

    Hi all,
It's been over 10 year since I posted in the HTPC forums, but now I'm back, getting rid of Sky, and setting up a Saorview/Freeview distribution system similar to what's described above.
Currently I have an Up-board (like a Raspberry Pi bit more powerful) as a back end running tvheadend, with an Asus U3100 DVB-T serving out Saorview. That gives me 2 simultaneous channels for some strange reason, I had thought they'd only give one channel each dongle.
Anyway, Front end is a selection of boxes, FireTV Stick (older gen), Fire TV 4K, Raspberry Pi 3, all running Kodi. I'm still trying to settle on a standard box for each TV.
I resurected an old Microsoft MCE RC6 remote that I bought about 15 years ago, and it works FANTASTIC with the Pi3. If I could get that to work with the FireTV, I'd be sorted, as it'd be a great combination.
Oh, and a Telestar Digibit R1 (€131 from Amazon.de) is in the post office waiting to get on an An Post van to be delivered out to me in the next day or two, and I've mounted a new Sat dish with 4-way LNB and new cables into the location where the Digibit will sit. I've another U3100 DVB-T adapter ordered (€14), and an August T230 DVB-T2 (€37 from Amazon.de). Depending on how the DVB-T/T2 adapters go, I'll order a few more to give more channel availability around the house.
Anyway, this thread is full of good info, and I'll be following closely as I build out my solution.
    Rgds,
    Dave.

    Rgds,
    Dave.

You should only need two DVB-T tuners for Saorview ..... to be able to access ALL Saorview channels, by multiple clients simultaneously.

Each tuner locks onto one mux (there are only two) and provides all channels in that mux.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 116 ✭✭meelick

Brilliant. That would explain the intermittent ability to get at multiple channels, when I happened to go for the same mux, it worked, but I must have been sometimes going for a different mux, hence the "no muxes available" message sometimes. So, two DVB-T2 adapters it is, then. :)
By the way, I had a problem tuning onto the two pre-set muxes in tvheadend, it didn't find any channels (when selecting Woodcockhill as the location). I even went through manually and changed the frequency to all the available saorview frequencies around Ireland, still nothing. Once I went back to the two Woodcockhill muxes, and changed a few of the settings to AUTO, it found the channels, and I was up and running.
    Thanks!
    Dave.

Does anyone have a good guiide to setting up a Telestar Digibit R1 with tvheadend? I can see the 4 Tuners with 4 positions each, but can't figure out what settings to put in when adding the network that won't result in a failed scan. Any tips?
I'm using the out of the box firmware on the telestar.
    Dave.

I reduce each tuner to one single position as I have the Sat dish fixed to one position.

If using the wizard I leave everything at the default IIRC.
Make sure each tuner has the DVB-S Network enabled.

Not sure there is much more to it ......

You need to set each tuner to have just the one satellite position. See the attached image.

Thanks for that, I've set positions to 1 all right. Here's sequence of the way I'm doing things, if ye could spot anything obvious wrong, please let me know. I seem to be fumbling around in the dark a bit on this.

    Digibit channel search:

    Digibit1.png

    Sat-IP server settings:

    sat1.png

Digibit page showing urls to services ( use the last one, the wizard doesn't find anything if I use the others):

    sat2.png

    Tuner state before starting wizard:

    Tuners.png

    Starting the wizard:

    wisard1.png

predefined muxes and url to services on digibit:

    wizard2.png

    scanning:

    wizard3.png

    scanning complete:

    wizard6.png

Don't map everything, will do later:

    wizard7.png

So, There's also the option at the beginning of not entering anything for IPTV #1, I can enter in the SAT-IP DVB-S tuners sections, but when they're scanning, every service it finds fails.

So, should I be using the IPTV automatic network with the url, or the DVB-S Tuners to find the channels?

Also, once I do manage to get the channels into the front, end, I can only watch one channel at a time. i.e. record one, and can't watch another. How do I enable simultaneous recording on multiple channels?

    Thanks,
    Dave.

I am not certain, but it appears you are attempting to use tvheadend to access the digibit as an IPTV tuner.

Try setting up tvheadend by adding DVB-S Network for Astra 28.2, then on the Adapters page, for each digibit tuner - Position #1 select that DVB-S network.

Let (or force) tvheadend do its own scanning for channels.

This method allows tvheadend to use the digibit tuners as SAT>IP tuners rather than use IPTV streaming.

All configuration is done in tvheadend.
