Does anyone know when the 2018-2022 Dublin-Kerry/Donegal PSO tender results will be announced? We are now less than 1.5 months from when they are meant to start.

The tender submission documents are here:
    https://irl.eu-supply.com/app/rfq/publicpurchase.asp?PID=117714&HL=0&PS=1&PP=ctm/Supplier/publictenders

The airport submissions are quite interesting, although they read a bit like school projects. The Kerry submission has interesting passenger numbers for all the airport's routes. I wonder if Cityjet put in an offer for Kerry?

There is only a few weeks notice period. I would expect the operators won't change. Can't see Loganair having another look but now Loganair have split from Flybe that may of changed. They are good under EI brand.

They’ve both been awarded to STK from what I’ve heard.

Loganair operated much better timings to CFN and had better codesharing then Stobart have ever offered even years in - I'd be very happy to see them back but if Stobart retain they really need to time for connections

[QUOTE=embraer170;105579571 I wonder if Cityjet put in an offer for Kerry?[/QUOTE]

And why would they..... a 98 seater Sukhoi would be overkill.

And Cityjet would have to to a hell of a lot of marketing cos they would be a bit like Smokie's Alice in Kerry. And CityJet had a rough time from Cork to London last time and can't see them wanting to go back into the market again. Sure.. isn't their wet leases they way they are going these days??

Definitely focussing on wet leasing, but they still have some Sukhois on the way (and have at least one spare right now).

Stobart are not doing a bad job but it is a pity connections are not sold Kerry-Europe (not sure if the blockage is at their end or the Aer Lingus end).

My understanding was that the timings were fixed (within certain limits) in the PSO agreement, as was the frequency.

My issue is not the frequency or timings but rather that connections are not sold to mainland Europe.

CityJet did bid but I don’t know the aircraft type. There

Still no official announcement. It was originally due in November so there must be some controversy happening in the background.

Are these contracts valuable or would airlines not be to worried about them?

Quite lucrative with the right sized aircraft.

Until now, there has has been a subsidy of at least €40 per passenger per flight. On top of that, the airline charges the fare (the majority of Stobart's capacity is sold at the contracted ceiling of €44 or so per flight with the rest for quite a bit more), luggage, etc. so I would not be surprised if Stobart was generating a total of around €100 per passenger transported. Load factors nowadays tend to be reasonable (in the 85% range) and the ATR is not an inefficient aircraft-

An interesting comparison is Ryanair's average fare of €40 over a much longer sector length.

Of course, Ryanair tried to make the Kerry PSO work in 2008-2010 and that was a dramatic failure.

The Donegal flight also leaves you with a frame in the right place to do the fairly popular Glasgow rotation - unsubsidised but has survived nearly 30 years now as a commercial service

Any idea what the controversy was that caused the delay in the PSO announcement?

    Ahm, no.

Stobart were awarded the PSO. Flights will be operated under the Aer Lingus Regional brand, and bookable on Aer Lingus' website, as it is now and is on all routes.

Loganair seem to be taking up CFN-GLA on their own accord, nothing to do with the PSO. Will operate 4 times weekly on TUE, THURS, SAT, SUN.

Aer Lingus currently scheduled to finish CFN-GLA on the 23rd March. Perhaps the airlines have come to an agreement?

ATR 42-600 OY-YCC arrived in Shannon last week for painting amongst other things, to become EI-GEV and will go into operation with Stobart Air. The other ATR 42-300 will be replaced by an ATR 72. Presume the 42 will go to Donegal and the 72 to Kerry.

Does this take the STK fleet to 17?

    Plus the 2 EMB's.

EI-GEV the new AT46 was delivered to Dublin today after painting and pre delivery maintenance at Shannon.

EI-FNA has been fulfilling the role of one of the old 42's since the start of the month doing the Kerry & Isle of Man flights, with EHH heading to Donegal. CBK seems to have been relegated to flying sectors normally done with a 72 that perhaps have low loads. It looks like CBK will be the first to go from that.
