Jeremy Sinzelle is a winger but he's named at 10?
    Yes.

Ive no heart to go to this to be honest. I know on paper we should get stuffed but its always this type of game we can win. Its going to be cold and its going to rain. No idea what to do.

But then again you dont want to miss watching a quality side like La Rochelle and miss Christians last home game.

Is Bent at Leinster on a long contract. He would be ideal TH for Ulster. Solid and generally injury free.

I don't think so. Ulster have signed a new tight head for next season though so may not want another exleinster tight head.

Is Deysel injured or just dropped? He's not even on the bench.

    Where's Schalk VDM?

    Where's Schalk VDM?

In the AIL I hope. He is absolutely rubbish, must be one of our worst ever prop signings.

Who knows, he’s another awful signing.

He has played for the A team once and then seniors twice. He is horrible.

Not even named on the A team in the B&I cup. Hope we can get rid of him.

Few young LH's more than capable of outperforming him.

If memory serves me right wasn't the same said about Court when he came and didn't he play a few Ail games before he got regular senior time?

VDM is a prop who can't scrum and can't carry.

He was a cheapo signing and it is showing.

Ah I wouldn't be as quick to judge him. He had a belter of a game alongside Coetzee earlier in the year. If he could stay fit he brings a bit of aggression and dog to our pack which is sorely missing!!

Yeah. Let's give the guy a fair crack of the whip.

How did A game go? Angus K and Rob L both played well last game.

They won 25-14 (BP). Lyttle scored two tries.

    Dear Ulster,

Please give Les Kiss a contract for life.

    Yours,
    Leinster.

I think Leinster did Ulster a favour last week. All Les had to do was keep playing that game to get the lads to understand how to defend. It worked too, :D

Will Donald be confirmed next week? I'd imagine they'd want to get him in as soon as possible to try and take over from CL. Will he still be here for the Wasps game?

What's the best result for Ulster in the Quins v Wasps match? Quins beat Wasps and knock them out?

Quins beating Wasps would be the dream. Bonus points actually make no difference.

    Quins imploding at present

Well well well things have got interesting.

Now if Ulster could play like that every week we would all be happy.

Well done to the players and coaches including Kiss who rightly gets a bit of grief (albeit I think it goes OTT) when we lose but deserves credit when we win. He was pretty emotional in his post match interview today.

I don't think we were particularly brillant, yes there were moments from Cooney, Piutau and his mate Stockdale, but it was a bloody minded dogged performance where the likes of Louis Ludik came into his own with his defence. Heart and soul goes a long way in rugby.

But they have to repeat this and more next week. Just think, a bonus point win and we will top the pool and may even end up with a home QF...

It will be interesting to see how much Wasps want it next week. They can still finish 2nd and 17 points could get you through so they have something to play for. But if we start well they could lose interest quickly.

Ulster and Wasps is the very last game next weekend. They'll know if they're eliminated before kick off.

Which makes the lack of thinking yesterday and attempting a drop goal all the more frustrating. That could be the difference between hosting Bath or going away to Clermont.

Ulster will be cheering for saracens next Saturday. Wasps are out if ....

    On Saturday
Clermont (18) win group with a win and Sarries TBP Saints to finish 2nd on 18

Exeter beat Glasgow and are on 18/19

Toulon TBP v Benetton today puts them on 18
Bath getting a TBP v Benetton puts them on 18
Scarlets v Toulon doesn't really matter

You keep talking about the drop goal that should have been tried but seems to me that we currently have nobody that's a good enough kicker to attempt this, and the wind was ruining the place kicks Cooney was taking.

Basically if you're playing the percentages, it seems like a much better idea to keep going through the phases and bait LAR into a penalty. A drop kick would have let them have possession too, successful or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

A drop goal would have meant they were kicking the ball back to Ulster, miss or not. Ulster were deep in the 22 in the final 15 minutes on separate occasions for multiple phases. The period leading up to Henderson's spill was as easy a chance for a drop goal as possible. If CL or McPhillips can't hit that they're in trouble. It was bang in front from 15m.

I think the players weren't aware of the situation and impact of denying them a BP.

It was Cooney and McPhillips in the last 8, not CL. But CL had been taking no kicks all afternoon, and Cooney had already missed 2 conversions.

LAR were fighting pretty hard for a score at that point, so giving them possession if the kick was missed would have been a real danger.

Maybe if we had more experienced heads in at 9 or 10 it'd have been considered but it just didn't seem like a great option to me.
