The bookies spread for our game on Saturday is only 1 point.

La Rochelle -1, I'd be all over that like flies on a jobby. Free money if you want it.

That seems very wrong, but I suppose you never know. I'd love an Ulster win. For Ulster as well as for Leinster.

Wasps just beat La Rochelle 23- 3 at home. La Rochelle didn't fire a shot and Wasps could barely put a team on the pitch with injuries.

Don't get me wrong, they are a good team and capable of anything but I'd say the bookies probably aren't too far wrong.

Ulster aren't playing great, but they are no where near as bad as you would think if you only read this thread.

La Rochelle rested half their team for the Wasps game.

As a result, a win is probably a must for La Rochelle this weekend now. I think anyone who believes they'll be as complacent again is in for a shock.

Even accounting for the fact that Ulster could pull a performance out of the bag, if La Rochelle turn up they'll beat us and a 1 point spread is really, really generous to Ulster.

La Rochelle sent a weakened team to Wasps. That probably won't happen this week. After Ulster they play Quins at home and then Brive at home followed by a week off so it's not like they have another massive game to prioritise.

I think we're in for a bit of a spanking.

No signs to indicate otherwise unfortunately.

Yeah, there really is a feeling of free money on that spread.

Ulster will put a performance. It may not be the winning of the game but I think they'll be on the money this week.

Yeah. Bad and all as it was, the Leinster game would have been great preparation for this. I'm not sure La Rochelle would bring the same speed to the counter-attack as Leinster did, but that was one of the areas where Ulster were caught flat-footed. I certainly don't see the La Rochelle props making the kind of run that Andrew Porter did. ;)

If they did, they'd have to go off for an"HIA/bloodbin" aka sitting down for 10 minutes sucking on an oxygen mask.

Will depend on the team that’s announced really. Ulster can be competitive if they go strong, but that injury list is daunting.

La Rochelle have a lot of injuries in their pack too. They're down to five props (two looseheads afaik) and five locks. They're also down to their last two scrum halfs. After that, they've plenty to choose from in the backs though.

We've been down to our last one scrum half the past 10 years!!

Now don't go confusing not having any scrum halfs with not wanting to play anyone but Pienaar all the time. :pac:

In fairness, there are no Ulster scrumhalves you can point at and say they are ones that got away.

He wasn't Ulster, but Isaac Boss got away.

    Is Paul Marshall available?

    Powers of deduction!

Jonny Stewart, Shanahan and Cairns (wing) all in the Ulster A squad tomorrow

Pictures of Payne training today with the rest of the squad. Hope whatever problems he's been having are in the past.

    (15-9): C Piutau; C Gilroy, L Ludik, S McCloskey, J Stockdale; C Lealiifano, J Cooney;
    (1-8): C Black, R Best (captain), R Ah You, A O'Connor, I Henderson, M Rea, S Reidy, N Timoney;
    Replacements (16-23): R Herring, K McCall, R Kane, K Treadwell, C Henry, D Shanahan, J McPhillips, D Cave.

Very green back row, good experience for Rea and Timoney. Big opportunity for them.

Not a big fan of Ludik at 13 but otherwise that team is alright.

    21/23 players are IQ.

    Only Piutau and Lealiifaano aren't.

Is Bent at Leinster on a long contract. He would be ideal TH for Ulster. Solid and generally injury free.

Thought a few of those lads had been named on the Ravens team for the B&I Cup?

I think Ulster will win this.

    Yea Kane and Shanahan were.

Kane brought in cause Herbst seems to have not got over his injury in time. No mention of why Shanahan has been brought in but it's probably not hard to figure out.

  • Administrators Posts: 55,716 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    Actually, hold the phone.

Why the fcuk is Shanahan on the bench and not Stewart? I had my 9s mixed up for a moment there.

Stewart goes from starting against Leinster to the wilderness? Shanahan comes from the wilderness to starting against La Rochelle? What's the point in this?

I can't remember the last time Shanahan started a match for Ulster. This makes no sense at all, I didn't think Stewart was great last week but he wasn't bad enough to warrant dropping out of the side completely for a guy who hasn't played in ages and who is pretty rubbish himself.

    16. Jean-Charles Orioli, 17. Vincent Pelo, 18. Mohamed Boughanmi, 19. Gregory Lamboley, 20. Afa Amosa, 21. Tawera Kerr Barlow, 22. Benjamin Nobles, 23. Paul Jordaan

A good team. Can't believe Gregory Lamboley is still on the go.

Jeremy Sinzelle is a winger but he's named at 10?
