No chance Jimmy G gets traded against the wishes of BB imo.

Where did you get this in everything I wrote? Bill traded Jimmy no question there. My post is what it is you either read it as is or not whatever floats your boat but I never said what you suggested.

I read what you wrote and you said that Kraft stepped in to veto Bill, and I'm saying no chance that happened.

Google the articles and you will get your context. I thought it would be obvious when I mentioned trading Brady which we would have done off season if that was ever going to happen. No way it was going to be Brady yesterday over Jimmy either way.

I'd imagine Bill wanted to see how Brady came back after being christened the GOAT and he came back as good as ever.
I just refuse to believe that Kraft would step in because I think Bill would walk if he did.

All of it is nothing more than speculation and like anything Patriots we will probably never know the truth but I disagree with you on the above. Don't forget he is the GM as well as the Head Coach and as GM you know he most likely has personnel meetings with Kraft before every season seen as that is what most GMs do. I am sure the conversation has come up plenty of times between the 2. But again all just speculation.

but the word on the street (which as you say isn't necessarily true) was that the Pats let it be known that they weren't open to offers. Everything is really tied up with whether that was the case or not. If the Browns made an offer and the Pats said "that's not enough to get him" that's different to them saying "he's not available for a trade".

Just watched the Jimmy G press conference - John Lynch said they approached the Pats in the offseason to do a trade and were shut down immediately - he said they never even got to propose terms. Looks like the Pats thought they could get a deal done alright.

You called it. The last 24 hours we have definitely learned a lot about what Bill was thinking when it came to his QB situation. He really liked Jimmy and it shows in all of his press conferences and show appearance. He was 98.5 yesterday and you could tell in his voice he really like Jimmy and really wanted to do everything to try keep him. But in the end he said it was business and they left it to the last hour to make that decision.

For what it is worth I don't think we would ever got a 1st round pick for him though. Maybe extra picks on top of the 2nd round.

Lynch refused to go into details of who came to who when asked directly but let it slip later that it took him and Shanahan 10 minutes to make the decision which makes it seem like it was the Patriots that approached the 49ers. Patriots must have wanted to leave it till the last minute to ensure they had cover if Brady did go down.

You could be right - although looking at the McCarron price it's hard to know what the true market for QBs in terms of draft picks is.

**edit** It may also be that they didn't want to trade with the Browns as they knew that the paperwork would be screwed up... :)

Also the fact the Browns went into their usual panic mode probably helped the price :pac:

Its a shame to lose Jimmy, I wish him all the best and will root for him for sure. I think the Pats have done pretty well out of the trade also though, its not a nothing pick. Could be like the 35th pick of the draft, could draft another QB in the 2nd round, knowing Bill could also use that pick to trade down and get more value picks.

JG looks very good to me, both physically and mentally. His dedication, attitude, work ethic and intelligence have been highly praised. I think if Brady was a couple of years older BB would have probably moved him on and went with Jimmy for the long term. Tom playing how he is removed any chance of that though. So much of life is timing unfortunately and in 5 years I suppose we could be looking back thinking what if but I trust Bill to look after the long term health of the team. Jimmy for his part was offered a good deal by the Pats apparently but turned it down because he wants to be a starter. I haven't confirmed that just heard it on a podcast so maybe incorrect but if true it speaks even more of that character and attitude he has.

    Best of luck to him.

The Pats can't regret it. The only way to keep Jimmy realistically was to bench Brady and that would be dumb. Sure you could franchise him but that would just would just annoy Jimmy and delay the departure for a year.

Good deal for all parties here.

It's funny, I don't think I've ever been as disappointed to see a backup QB leave (not counting Bledsoe as a "backup" after Brady took over).
2nd round pick is probably as a good a value as we would have got.
Unlike McCarron, the team paying the pick for Jimmy has to get him to agree to a new deal for next season, which probably hurt his value.

They get 8 games to look at him properly themselves in their own structure now to decide whether they want to do that or not also. Just a good trade all round, Jimmy gets an opportunity to earn himself a proper starting spot.

Lovely seeing the Jets do us a favour last night also :)

He will be back in a couple of year. Like the Browns the 49ers make bad decisions and they will blame Jimbo at some point when it all goes wrong and the Pats will retire Brady and bring back Jimmy

Only problem with that plan is that QB's on these teams tend to get beaten up and come out the other end a shell of their former selfs....
I hope the 49ers protect Jimmy, he could have a very good career if they keep him healthy.

At one point during the Pats-49er's communications over a QB, the 49er's GM asked if they would trade Brady...

Lynch: 'Alright, so if Garoppolo is off limits, would you trade us Tom Brady?'"

Belichick: "What did you just ask me?!"

Lynch: "I'm asking, would you trade us Tom Brady? You said Garoppolo is off limits.'"

Belichchick: "Did you just ask me if I would trade Tom Brady? ... Did you just ask if I'd trade the greatest quarterback of all time?"

Lynch: "So is that a no?'"

Belichick: "Yeah, John, that's a hard no."

    That.....just.....cannot be true!
    He asked for Brady?

I know it gets discussed on a few of the radio stations/podcasts, but for me, there's no trading Tom. I don't care if they offered 3 x 1st rounders; I think Brady's play makes up for so much (still think back to '13 when he had nothing on offense and went 12:4 and lost by 10pts in the AFC game).

Lynch was probably taking the p1ss when he asked. When you listen to him you can tell by his sense of humor that asking for Brady would be something he would do after getting turned down for Jimmy. He is a funny dude.:D

I think it was him thinking at worst it'll be a funny story but it couldn't hurt to ask. This was last summer and it was unlikely that Patriots were going to be able to keep both guys into next year so he had nothing to lose. He is such a breath of fresh air when compared to Baalke as GM.

New DT signed today Ricky Jean Francois 30 played for a few teams has had a decent enough career be interesting to see how he fits in.

Mad thing about him he own 30 Dunkin Donuts franchises :D That will fit well in New England.

Ha, fair play to him looking to have a plan set up for retirement (and what better one for a lineman than a donut shop!?) - he was cut by GB this offseason which really took me by surprise though our D-line has looked quite good (and Kenny Clark coming on in spades could have contributed), was quite excited about getting him in the offseason. I remember him being a little penalty prone but nothing too bad, and being a flat out mean and nasty (though not particularly dirty) player... need some of them on your defense!

Hope not. I remember right after the Patriots Super Bowl win, Bennett was interviewed and said, "I'm going into free agency as a Super Bowl champion.

This doesn't bother me at all. If we do bother to bring him back all I would care about is that he does his job like he did last year.

I don't think we will bring him back. He is injured right now and the fact he hid the injury would leave you to believe the injury is one that isn't going away.

Dwayne Allen has been a complete let down, hasn't caught a pass. If Gronk goes down, we only really have Hollister in reserve. But I don't think Marty is the type to come back for the Vet minimum!

He's already stated that he thought he only had 8 games left in his career, so he's looking to retire after this season.
Given our issues with receiver health right now, I could see us signing him and him taking the opportunity to try and end on a high.
