Not exactly true. I've a 7/8 bred limousin heifer and she's black. I've seen plenty of lim cows here alternate between black and red in their calves.

    More than likely.;)

agree for heifers.not strictly true for bulls

sold bulls in there a few weeks back and they made 2.75/kg, v similiar stock in gortatlea 2 days later making the same and none of the waiting til after 1am for them to be sold either:D

She could be 7/8 bred and be black but she's from a long line of black cows assuming a red bull.

She's a 50/50 chance of a red or black calf too.

Simple mendellian genetics black is dominant over red. She got black from her mother and red from her father. Once black is there she's black but she can pass on red.

In comparison to this time last year how are quality Charolais weanlings born say from March to May standing up price wise?

300-400kg would be heavy for March to May born
Heard April born 250kg making from €620-€780 depending on time of sale, & March born 350kg - €800 - €950

    Where was that?
I was in Dowra today ......just watching trade as have a few cows that didn’t go in calf to sell in next few weeks, thought cull cows weee not a bad trade considering how waterlogged ground is etc.

    630 kg Ch 2009 - 820 euro
    740 kg Sh 2006 - 1060 euro
    700 kg LMx 2013-1100 euro
    560 kg HF 2012- 768 euro
    785 kg Ch x 2010 - 1105

Looking at most of cows, calves came off them this morning.
Trade was fairly good for all other types, worst trade for storkish heifers 18 months +.......struggling to get into 300 euro with the weight.

Whatever about the mart opening I know I wouldn't fancy towing a trailer in 70 kph wind with gusts over 100.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,718 ✭✭✭✭patsy_mccabe

Speed limit is 80 kph with a trailer so if you were driving away from the directiom of the wind, wind would be faster than you. Put your hand out the window and it would be blown forward.

They were on meal from 1st of September. Not a lot, maybe on 1.5kg towards the end. They didnt eat 2 bags each anyway. Cows would be very milky. A few had 5 stars, the other 4.

Dont know. The only shippers I knew were the infamous ones, and they usually only hung around for a while till they got either barred or went bust.
