Yeah, just watched it tonight. Very enjoyable! It almost feels like a documentary of 1970s New York. The attention to detail is excellent, TVs being a mix of black and white and colour (colour being a sign of status!), the amount of rubbish around the place, etc. Naturally, it also features a lot of David Simon's talents; great dialogue, intricate story-lines, plenty of characters to follow and from different perspectives. Typical of Simon, the first episode throws you right into the middle of the times, so you might feel a little lost at the beginning. This was the same with The Wire and I have no doubt it will become more familiar in another two or three episodes.

Basically, if you liked The Wire for what it was then you will like The Deuce.

Thought it was excellent, though I am a big fan of The Wire, so I'm always happy to see some of the cast appearing in new roles. Looking forward to the rest of the series, though would prefer to be able to binge watch, like most other series.

Just watched it last night. Loved it! I don't think anyone can build a world like Simon. Over 5 seasons of the Wire you almost feel like you could find your way around Baltimore and I've been to New Orleans a few times - he nailed it in Treme. Can't say I've any firsthand experience of 1970s Time Square but the Deuce feels like the real deal.

Looking forward to seeing how it unfolds. Not 100% sold on this twin thing but James Franco is pretty great. I was just thrilled to see Lawrence Gillard as the cop - one of favorite actors from the Wire just killing it with a lovely understated performance.

It really doesn't flinch on the sex does it? Even by HBO standards it's graphic.

Excellent though. Very methodical like you'd expect from a David Simon show.

No, pretty graphic stuff. Watched the second episode last night. The scene with the soup made me snort-laugh.

The attention to detail is amazing from what it looks to have gone into it although I did notice one or two shots where you can kind a notice the green screen, especially as Franco was leaving the subway.

David Krumholtz is supposed to play a sleazy porn producer and looks every bit the part so looking forward to that. A bit like Joe Spinell from Maniac, Godfather, Taxi Driver ect. from what I can tell.

Maybe due to the slow buildup in getting going. The Wire pretty much grabs you from its first opening scene and doesn't let go, where here its a much longer ramp up time.

Watched it earlier today. For me I think it will be slow start to get into. Personally I thought the first episode was too long. It was like over an hour and a half. By the end of it I kind've just wanted it to end. Not sure how long the next episode will be, but I'll stick with it anyway.

Just watched the opener on Sky. Wonderful stuff!!

Probably the best since Show Me a Hero. I really need to check out Treme!

Already some fascinating characters. Brilliant acting and the look was incredible.

Can't wait for more.

Just got to watch the first episode last night, i loved it. Enjoyed the dialogue, visuals etc. Though if you're adverse to the odd willy popping up (ahem) stay well away lol. I liked Maggie Gyllenhaal in it, I'm not usually a fan of hers.

Watched up to the 3rd episode now, I wasn't so sure after the overlong first episode but after some more character development it's really coming together nicely now. Looks like there is only 8 episodes for season 1 unfortunately

Would love for this to turn into another 4 or 5 season epic. Great early signs anyway.

Not as good as The Wire, yet, but like The Wire it's a slow burner, I've a feeling it will get there, maybe not quite as good as The Wire, but I really think this will be a classic, one we look back at in many years and compare others shows to it, just like we do with The Wire.

Could be building up to a Studio 54 type club for Vincent. Hopefully we get a few seasons out of it and it doesn't go the way of Vinyl. Loads of room for deeper character development and backstories.

Huge credit to the writers again for building such multi layered characters. Its a departure in terms of the theme from the Wire but yet there is still some similarities.

The whole politics of the streets and how the various characters interact with each other is as excellent as it was on the Wire. Most TV shows tend to go for a 'Good cops versus the bad guys' but David Simon puts it on a more human level and demonstrates a general empathy between all characters.

The only criticism I have is with the damn audio on the dialogue. I had the bloody subtitles on this week!!

Noticed the same actually with another HBO show recently, Big Little Lies.
